What is the best treatment for prostate cancer

what is the best treatment for prostate cancer?
anyone out there that has or has had prostate cancer that could answer this question
Cancer - 1 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
The best treatment for any cancer is the one your oncologist tailors for you. They look at your overall health. They consider the size, location and other details of the tumor. Then they discuss the options best suited to you. After a course of treatment test are run again to see if you are responding to the prescribed treatment. Not everyone responds the same way to any given drug or treatment. Always ask tons of questions. It also helps if someone goes to doctor appointments with you. They too can ask questions, take notes, and help you remember what the doctor said. You have my very best wishes for a complete cure.
2 :
My father died of metastatic prostate cancer in 2008. He was diagnosed in 2000 and in HIS case, because the cancer had already spread, the best treatment for him was hormone therapy using two drugs - Casodex and Lupron Depot. My best friend's dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer around the same time. In his case, his prostate was removed and he received radiation therapy. He made a full recovery and is doing well to this day. As this illustrates, it just depends on when diagnosis is made, how advanced it is, etc.

What are all the signs of prostate cancer

what are all the signs of prostate cancer?
thanks for the answers. would this be a sign?if my semen had a slight reddish color to it?
Cancer - 4 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Constant feeling of needing to urinate.
2 :
No that is not a symptom and by the time you have symptoms it means it is advanced. If you are over 40 you should have had a baseline exam and you should be following your doctors recommendations on how often you should follow up and not wait until you have symptoms.
3 :
Most problems are related to urination and prostate pain, which aggravate with time. Slight reddish color in your semen (if your age 40 and above) may be related to any cancer; but you must indicate if it is reddish or cherry-like color and you have any of the problems. In most cases, your problems might be related to any accident occurred or infection. There are lots of things to ask and clarify before answering exactly.
4 :
I am a prostate cancer survivor and I had no symptoms, frequent urination, small stream, pain, etc. are some. The only reason they found anything out was because I needed a blood test for something else totally unrelated which turned out to show my PSA level was high. I had a physical exam and they couldn't find anything so I ended up getting a biopsy which showed I had cancer. As far as the reddish color that could be it could be due to blood in the kidney or injury to your testicle. Go to your doctor with this information. So what else needs to be done is get yourself a blood test and have your PSA level checked, this will give you a baseline for the future. Once you have a baseline you can then determine what to do in the future. I hope this helps and wish you all the best. Good luck

What Is The Cost Of Proton Beam Therapy For Prostate Cancer

What Is The Cost Of Proton Beam Therapy For Prostate Cancer?
My insurance will not pay for this. They will pay for regular radiation treatments claiming they do not think Proton Beam is superior to regular external radiation treatments.
Cancer - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Appeal this ruling and ask your doctor or whoever recommended this to do the same. It is frustrating but fairly common for insurance companies to deny these types of benefits. You have to fight for it and prove that it is a better option for you. A proton beam is far more precise than regular radiation treatments and will have fewer side effects . . all this can be put into a letter of appeal. Patient Insurance Strategy Guide for Proton Therapy http://www.proton-therapy.org/insurance_strategies.htm Be persistent. If you need to you could try calling your state bureau of insurance to file a complaint.
2 :
there is also microwave bombardment to the prostate also.

Can you develope prostate cancer at a young age

Can you develope prostate cancer at a young age?
Why is it recommended to get your prostate checked at a older age, like 40 plus?
Cancer - 5 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Unfortunately you can develop any type of cancer at any age.
2 :
extremely rare.
3 :
yes but highly unlikely,40 is when men generally start to have prostate issues and if cancer is the issue it is best to catch it while it is confined to the prostate (before it spreads to other part of the body
4 :
Most prostate cancers occur in men over 50 years of age, although I know of an individual who was diagnosed at 38 and died when he was 43. Screening is recommended from age 45 and on, eben if no symptoms are present.
5 :
you can develop it anytime but it is rare. they are trying to change it to 40 and older. but your family and your lifestyle has alot to do with it. and if your black your also twice as likely. my husband had it at 49 but his father has it and hes also black.

Long hours of erection causes prostate cancer

Long hours of erection causes prostate cancer?
I know this might sound stupid but I just wanted to know does erection has anything to do with prostate cancer? how about long hours of erection? Thanks
Men's Health - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
No connection whatever. If it did, we'd all have died off from prostate cancer long ago.
2 :
An erection is usually a sign of a high libido. It has been proven that frequent ejaculations can reduce the risk of prostate cancer. http://newsfromrussia.com/science/2004/04/07/53281.html Long hours of erection may signal that one has a high libido. The erection may not cause the prostate cancer, but it may be a sign that something chemically is building up that may need to be released. I hope this helps. Peace.
3 :
the only direct connection between an erect penis and prostrate cancer is the fact that regular masturbation tends to reduce the risk of prestate cancer. And since we all know it's hard to masturbate unless you are hard, it would seem an erection, when properly used, is actually healthy for your prostate.

Have him try Vitamin E
2 :
nothing proven scientifically, but try berries like blueberries etc, pomegranates, broccoli, spinach, tomatoes and peppers.
3 :
Vitamin E and K
4 :
Apparently tomatoes but they must be cooked as they then produce lycopene which helps prevent prostate cancer, dont know about reducing it though, but all tomatoe based sauces , ketchup are good cancer fighting foods.
5 :
The main two foods which have been shown to help against prostate cancer are cranberry and tomatoes (cooked; raw tomatoes have been shown to promote the growth of some tumor types in vitro). All cancer-fighting foods, ie japanese green tea, berries, pomegranate, probiotics (kefir, russian-style yogurt, is a great probiotic), brocoli, turmeric, ginger, ect. in a reasonnable healthy diet are also a good idea.

Is it true if a man ejaculates more often, he lessens his risk of prostate cancer

Is it true if a man ejaculates more often, he lessens his risk of prostate cancer?
I read this somewhere. They did a study, and men who ejaculate more often lessen their risk of prostate cancer. Anyone heard of this and how often do they have to ejaculate to lessen the risk?
Men's Health - 12 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
I read somewhere that this is true, and he should ejaculate about twice a week.
2 :
you only need to ejaculate about once a month for that effect, if it was true my man would be just fine instead of taking flowmax, he has had 3 wives and lots of girlfriends and tons of lycopeen due to his itallian heritage and tomato sauce, and he still did the nasty by himself daily, drank red wine and everything else he thinks is good for him. all of that stuff is at best marginal help.
3 :
I don't know but I'm not taking the chance.
4 :
I'm not sure of how often they need to but I have heard that as well. So probably once a day to every other day....if not more.
5 :
All the studies I've read indicate that ejaculation reduces the chances of prostate cancer, but its all still percentages. Heck - women under mid teens increase chances of certain reproductive cancer by having sex... yet semen in older (adult) women reduces chances of reproductive cancers... Go figure - humans are designed to have sex... LOL... Cool question - haven't seen an article on the subject in years... -dh
6 :
i dont think so and there is no solid reference prostate cancer my be just coz of food but its better to ask a doctor
7 :
It cant be proven since any study would have to span over the course of many, many years. But in theory, by ejaculating often, it rids the reproductive system of toxins that build up. Some say these toxins can be a cause of prostate cancer. Will it prevent prostate cancer? No. If this theory is true, it would only eliminate a single cause of the disease.
8 :
HOW EVER WROTE THAT ARE NOT GETTING A LOT OF SEX AT ALL THINK ABOUT ALL THE OLD VIRGINS OUT THERE THEY DON'T HAVE CANCER
9 :
possible.
10 :
See the links below. The studies are listed. http://jama.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/abstract/291/13/1578 http://menshealth.about.com/cs/prostatehealth/a/ejaculate_ptate.htm?terms=bethesda+health+institute+maryland+national
11 :
I have ejaculated at least once almost every day of my life since puberty, but I still got prostate cancer when I was 57. I'm 62 now and fully recovered but I'm still making sure that I have an orgasm almost every day, just in case! Seriously, ultra-frequent ejaculation may help, but I'm the living proof that it it's not a certain prevention.
12 :
I have read that somewhere, they say it is true...

OK I'm going to tell you what my father in law told my husband and I. He had prostate cancer and was injected with radio active seeds directly into the tumor. In no time this tumor was gone. He was declared cancer free, no tumor. Yes, he has the regular testing but as far as sex. This man will die on his wife. No really, that's all both of them talk about She was so worried that he wouldn't be able to perform. They are 2 of a kind with a sex drive that would put a newly couple to shame. They live in Florida, big surprise for a retiree. He is 80 and she is 78. We visited them last Nov. I was actually embarrassed at what I heard going on in the next room. So was my husband. The next day she came into our guest room and told us if we needed clean sheets because of sex, she had plenty. No way, not in anyone else house. My husband feels the same. So you have the answer to your question. I don't know if all prostate cancer patients are like that, but I do know one man who had no problem getting right back into the swing of things. And yes, even when he had the cancer, it didn't stop him. No, he doesn't take Viagra or anything, It all comes natural to him, (no pun intended)
2 :
Prostate cancer does not cause erectile dysfunction. If this is a school project it is up to you to read the material and do your project – this is how you learn.
3 :
ED isn't just about losing your erections. It's a lot tougher than that. It's about self esteem and confidence. It's about still feeling like a man... I'm not a big fan of medicating away your problems. Drugs do not cure! They only mask symptoms, and provide temporary relieve. Plus, They all come with side effects! So, skip the blue pills and try these natural methods...

Is it normal for prostate cancer patients to frequently urinate?

He went and had a test as to why this was going on and they couldn't find any thing . You just have to learn to live with it and manage your life around it.

What tests do I need to undergo to see if I have prostate cancer or colon cancer? Is it painless

What tests do I need to undergo to see if I have prostate cancer or colon cancer? Is it painless? ?
I am 33 years old and I'm just wondering if I should wait a few more years to undergo the tests. I know it's fatal.
Cancer - 3 Answers

1 :
Blood tests can detect prostate cancer, and a colonoscopy can detect colon cancer. Colonoscopies are no fun, but you will be sedated! If either of the cancers run in your family, you should talk to your doctor about early testing...maybe not at 33, but within the next few years.
2 :
matthew - You're wise, but perhaps you worry too much and have some inaccurate data. FIRST, the tests are not fatal and cancers of the prostate and colon are often cured, not routinely fatal. For prostate, wait till you reach about 45 in 12 years, and then you can request a simple annual screening blood for PSA (prostate-specific antigen). Meanwhile, during your annual exam, ask your doctor to do a simple digital rectal exam when he palpates the prostate gland via a finger inserted in the rectum to feel for any suspicious nodules in the prostate. At the same time he does that he can check for any rectal mass. For colon cancer screening, you can begin now to once-a-year get the series of 3 cards from your doc or lab on which you can smear a pea-sized sample of stool (feces) once daily for 3 days, and submit to the lab for testing for any hidden blood since colon cancer sometimes is discovered with traces of blood in the stool. The tests are painless except for an ordinary blood sampling stick or, for some guys an uncomfortable digital finger rectal example. After about 45 years of age you could request a more extensive screening colonscopy exam once every 10 years.
3 :
don't wait mens should start at age 20 to check for prostate cancer, blood work, stool test and a colonoscopi, with the colonocospi you be sedate.

Your friend should have his prostate removed, if indeed there is cancer present. All of the cancer could probably be removed at the time of surgery, and the cancer would be gone, thus your friend would have a normal life expectancy.
2 :
You are giving us nothing to work with here, so there is no way to answer you. Many men do nothing for years after diagnosis and alternative treatments is doing nothing, it is referred to a â€Å“watchful waiting” and is perfectly acceptable in many situations. Prostate cancer is often a slow growing cancer and these men die with their cancer rather than from it. However, if he is a younger man with a moderate to high grade cancer that is a different story.

Can you get a tumor in your prostate without it being prostate cancer?
I know it might sound stupid but yeah. And the tumor can still be cancerous?
Cancer - 3 Answers

Yes you can and it is fairly common.
2 :
technically tumors are cancer. But I think you mean prostatic enlargement. if so, then yes, you can have what is called a benign prostatic enlargement (BPE) or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). both refer to the same thing, that the prostate enlarges inappropriately without it being a tumor or cancer.
3 :
yes. It is possible for cancers to spread. It could be lung cancer if they have lung cancer and so on. Sometimes people will develop a tumor and have it biopsied and find out that the cancer originated somewhere else.

Asparagus. Asparagus contains a good supply of protein called histones, which are believed to be active in controlling cell growth. For that reason, asparagus can be said to contain a substance that acts as a cell growth normaliser. That accounts for its action on cancer and in acting as a general body tonic. In any event, regardless of theory, asparagus is a harmless substance. The FDA cannot prevent you from using it and it may do you much good." It has been reported by the US National Cancer Institute, that asparagus is the highest tested food containing glutathione, which is considered one of the body's most potent anticarcinogens and antioxidants.

has your friend applied for medicare or in most cities there is a program that gives free medical and dental insurance if you have no assets. I live in texas and its called a map program. (medical assistance program.) I'm not sure about homeopothy treatments but I would try holistic treatments like massage and especially acupuncture if you can. The relief is sometimes profound if the person has been in pain for a long time. Also the human contact does wonders for most people that are ill. Hope that helps a little. :) P.S. I'm really sorry you're going through this! How are YOU holding up? Don't forget to take care of you when you are taking care of your friend. Often we don't realize how sapped our strength becomes during these times so be sure you take care of you too o.k.? :)
3 :
Your friend should apply for a government managed insurance program such as Medicaid, if he has no private insurance and limited income. Even with modest treatment for symptom management, the bills can become quite substantial over time. Chemotherapy and radiation therapy are extremely expensive in the US. Another option is to call the American Cancer Society at 1-800-ACS-2345 and ask for suggestions about financing needed treatment. Homeopathic treatments are highly dubious. Your friend should consult with a legitimate physician instead. In particular, strong pain medications require a physician's prescription.

You could click on the link below - it opens the door to explaining how the so-called "incurable" diseases can be reversed or even cured, by drinking water, eating salt and adding a few supplements to a person's diet. People immediately scoff at the idea of water and salt having so much importance in the body, but that's mainly because they put too much trust in the medical community that doesn't understand the effects that dehydration has on the body's physiology. Doctors have convinced people that water does nothing but quench thirst. But water affects every cell in the body and, with salt, delivers important nutrients to every cell as well as having many other critical functions. Doctor tell their patients to cut back on salt - that salt is bad for you. But a list of the benefits of salt in the body begs to prove otherwise: 1. Salt is most effective in stabilizing irregular heartbeats and, contrary to the misconception that it causes high blood pressure, it is actually essential for the regulation of blood pressure - in conjunction with water. Naturally the proportions are critical. 2. Salt is vital to the extraction of excess acidity from the cells in the body, particularly the brain cells. 3. Salt is vital for balancing the sugar levels in the blood; a needed element in diabetics. 4. Salt is vital for the generation of hydroelectric energy in cells in the body. It is used for local power generation at the sites of energy need by the cells. 5. Salt is vital to the nerve cells' communication and information processing all the time that the brain cells work, from the moment of conception to death. 6. Salt is vital for absorption of food particles through the intestinal tract. 7. Salt is vital for the clearance of the lungs of mucus plugs and sticky phlegm, particularly in asthma and cystic fibrosis. 8. Salt is vital for clearing up catarrh and congestion of the sinuses. 9. Salt is a strong natural antihistamine. 10. Salt is essential for the prevention of muscle cramps. 11. Salt is vital to prevent excess saliva production to the point that it flows out of the mouth during sleep. Needing to constantly mop up excess saliva indicates salt shortage. 12. Salt is absolutely vital to making the structure of bones firm. Osteoporosis, in a major way, is a result of salt and water shortage in the body. 13. Salt is vital for sleep regulation. It is a natural hypnotic. 14. Salt is a vitally needed element in the treatment of diabetics. 15. Salt on the tongue will stop persistent dry coughs. 16. Salt is vital for the prevention of gout and gouty arthritis. 17. Salt is vital for maintaining sexuality and libido. 18. Salt is vital for preventing varicose veins and spider veins on the legs and thighs. 19. Salt is vital to the communication and information processing nerve cells the entire time that the brain cells work - from the moment of conception to death. 20. Salt is vital for reducing a double chin. When the body is short of salt, it means the body really is short of water. The salivary glands sense the salt shortage and are obliged to produce more saliva to lubricate the act of chewing and swallowing and also to supply the stomach with water that it needs for breaking down foods. Circulation to the salivary glands increases and the blood vessels become "leaky" in order to supply the glands with water to manufacture saliva. The "leakiness" spills beyond the area of the glands themselves, causing increased bulk under the skin of the chin, the cheeks and into the neck. As you can see, the doctors are wrong where water and salt is concerned - both are vitally important to the body. This is why you owe it to yourself to click on the link below and learn for yourself how important water and salt are. Doctors, like the drug companies, are in it to make a profit. While many doctors are genuinely concerned with their patients health, they fall short on proper treatments because they have certain protocols that they learned in medical school, and dehydration wasn't a big part of the curriculum. But they don't seemed that interested in educating themselves, either. Perhaps it's because there's no money in prescribing water.

didnt state ur age but need to see urologest and get it cked
2 :
a simple blood test can give you an answer but to be 1000% sure you might need to get molested
3 :
Doctor's don't molest their patients by doing a rectal examination, or other types. It is not a joke and it's definitely not funny. That's an insult to the intelligence of even the simplest mind. If you're having problems urinating, it could be one of a variety of problems. Everything from a simple UTI to STD or enlarged prostate, etc. If you're having problems, strangers on Answers are not going to be able to cure you by typing a few words on the computer screen.
4 :
Sounds like it might be an enlarged prostate, which happens to most men as they age. Get to the doc and be checked out. And stop calling it "molestation." Molestation is a terrible sexual offense that happens to innocent kids. You need a checkup. Hang in there.
5 :
You should go get checkd out soon! Cancer usually has the same symptoms of 100's of different things that it could be, so most likely it's not cancer. What the doctor is going to do to you in an exam should be the last of your worries. If you have ever known someone who has suffered from cancer you would know how terrible it is and how hard it is to watch them deteriorate. So, let the doctor do what he needs to do before it's too late.

Thanks im a female so i dont have a prostate. my dad is 58

Men typically think they ae okay and do not need to go to the doctor; even when direly ill. Prostate problems will affect most men by the time they are 70. I have just been treated by radiation for it myself, and I feel that I have been cured. I shall find out the results tomorrow. Your dad should ask his doctor to book n a hospital appointment for him immediately. The treatment does not hurt in the slightest. It is just a matter of turning up each day for 8 weeks for a 10 minutes treatment time. I believe a positive attitude does help. Ladies to do not have prostates so you will not be affected by that particular problem. Still, there is no reason for you not going and having a chat with your general practitioner and see what's what. Good for you to think about it.
2 :
I don't know if there is a carry over in genes with a father with prostate cancer to a daughter, or ovarian cancer in a mother to son, etc. But a lot of people have a tendency to have cancers in families, so you might want to be sure to have breast exams, pap smears, etc and just watch for the same signs as everybody else. Having cancer in a family is no more a sure sign you will get it, than not having any cancer in a family would mean you could never get it. You just have to be on the look out for symptoms, but not be paranoid.
3 :
I wouldn't worry too much since you're female but if you're too concerned you could just make sure to have yearly physicals. We all should but most of us don't. My dad had colon cancer, luckily he caught it before it spread and they got rid of it. Now my sisters and I were told to get a colonoscopy at 40 instead of 50 since it's in the family. I mean anyone can get cancer regardless of lineage but risks are much higher if it runs in the family.
4 :
Cancer is rarely hereditary - fewer than 10% of all cases, all types. A sign that cancer may be hereditary within a family is when several members of the same side of the family have had the same type of cancer, especially if some developed it at a younger than average age. The risk of developing prostate cancer increases (for a male, obviously) if there is a first degree relative who developed it at a young age. Cancer that is diagnosed after the age of 50 is less likely to be hereditary. In a very small number of cases, prostate cancer runs in families because of a faulty BRCA2 gene, which is one of the faulty genes known to be responsible for hereditary breast cancer. But prostate cancer is not normally hereditary. There is no general tendency to inherit cancer. From the information you give, it's unlikely you are at increased risk of cancer.
5 :
You cannot get prostate cancer if you're a girl. Sorry you Uncle died and that your Dad has it, just hope it goes away with treatment.
6 :
I have heart disease, diabetes, and cancer in my family. I don't really worry about it too much, but I do take quite a bit of niacin and a small aspirin every night. I also drink large quantities of green tea.
7 :
I am sorry your family is facing the challenge of cancer with your dad and the loss of your uncle. The following information comes from Susan G. Komen for the Cure: When talking about family history, it̢۪s also important to consider the men in your family. A history of breast cancer in a close male relative (father, brother, uncle), though rare, can significantly increase breast cancer risk. A history of prostate cancer in one or more immediate family members (father or brother) may also increase risk, especially if cancer was found at an early age. Exactly why a family history of prostate cancer may increase breast cancer risk isn̢۪t known yet, though the risk of both cancers is influenced by blood hormone levels.

Just saw the news about prostate cancer and finger length.

Just saw the news about prostate cancer and finger length.?
It said that if your pointer finger was longer than your ring finger in men you are at lower risk to have prostate cancer. On my left hand my ring is shorter than my index so good, but it is opposite on my right hand. What does this mean?

Check out the Chicago Area Runners Association website for a list of all races in the Chicagoland area (covers many suburbs and NW Indiana, too). While the running season here is starting to come to a close, they'll begin updating the calendar with next year's events, which I believe includes a Prostate Cancer run in the late spring. You can check it out at www.cararuns.org. :)

Can a man be sexually active during the period that he is undergoing treatments for Prostate cancer

Can a man be sexually active during the period that he is undergoing treatments for Prostate cancer?
I'm not trying to find out for my sake in any way. It was a question for a friend who is concerned before he starts treatment. (I don't think he's asking his doctors all the right questions and I don't want to tell him lies.)

In short, yes. He may have erection problems, but this can be temporarily taken care of if he takes a pill called Aspire-36. It will allow him to achieve an erection often, within a 36hr time period. It's sold throughout the internet, google it, hit "shopping" ontop, and list from lowest to highest for the best price.
2 :
I would think so but sex will be the last thing on my mind. I would be thinking about getting better and being cured.
3 :
Yes he can be sexually active. However, there is not a single treatment for prostate cancer and each has its pros and cons. How it may affect the patient̢۪s sex life should be part of the discussion when deciding which route to go. There are various things that can cause problems achieving an erection and many remedies for this as well. The doctor should have your friend̢۪s history and is really the best person to go to for advise. Urologists not only treat prostate cancer, but they handle any problem regarding the penis.
4 :
Depends on his treatment regimen. Some prostate cancer patients are given anti-androgen drugs because just like estrogen feeds some breast cancers, testosterone feeds prostate cancer. If he was to be prescribed anti-androgen drugs then he almost certainly would lose his desire for sex and also his ability to maintain an erection. Not all prostate cancer patients need these drugs but many do. If he will honestly tell you what treatments he is doing then you'll know the answer to your question. Antiandrogens Antiandrogens are a class of drug which bind and inhibit the androgen receptor, blocking the growth- and survival-promoting effects of testosterone on certain prostate cancers. Flutamide and bicalutamide are antiandrogens which are frequently used in the treatment of prostate cancer, either as long-term monotherapy, or in the initial few weeks of GnRH analog therapy. also read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leuprolide http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prostate_cancer

There is a cure for all cancers but it takes big changes to the way you live so that's why it's not that easy. Go to my website and have a read. The e-book that I'm selling has all the answers to your Dad's problem. He's only young, buy him a present, it could save his life. Read what my wife did.

I'm sorry but there is no cure for Prostate cancer after it spreads. The hormones will slow the growth but normally stop helping after 1 or 2 years. After that it's a matter of time depending on where the cancer went. Normally it goes to the bones and lower back. I have inoperable cancer and I take the hormone injections. He needs a bone density test and a PSA every 3 to 6 months. Good luck to you.

it could spread everywhere, but in the beginning it makes your bladder squished so you pee more often
5 :
I know it is well hidden in the name but primarily the prostate.
6 :
Male reproductive organs.
7 :
i guess you PROSTATE would be affected.
8 :
Um.. the prostate?
9 :
Prostrate cancer ONLY affects the prostrate gland in Men. http://www.cancerbackup.org.uk/Cancertype/Prostate/General/Theprostate The linktakes you to a page all about the prostrate and has information about prostrate cancer too.
10 :
Initially the prostate (walnut sized gland in the male body). From there it'll metastasize to pretty much anywhere, with predominant locations being the liver and lymph nodes. If this is a bio project... are you actually going to CITE yahoo answers, or just plagerize?
11 :
The clue is in the name.
12 :
Prostate cancer affects all reproductive organs of a man and can cause psychological damage.
13 :
Any. But mostly bone, bladder, colon & rectum and lungs. Affected by extension of tumor or metastasis.
14 :
The entire body is affect by cancer anywhere in the body. Cancer has terrific potential to spread through the body, which is why it must be detected and treated early. The prostate is a male gland about the size of a walnut. It is located below the urinary bladder in front of the bowel. The problem with prostate cancer is that it can occur with few or no symptoms. When the prostate is inflamed and swollen, it can cause a great deal of pain and interfere with the passing or urine. I would suggest that you google "prostate" and "prostate cancer" and read about it. There are hundreds of sites.
15 :
The organ named the PROSTATE. It sits between the penis and the bladder. Its the valve, for urinating. Also it emits the liquid that semen travels in.
16 :
It is the prostate alone. Unless it has spread (metastized)

Prostate Cancer Treatment and its Effects on Sexual Performance   Prostate cancer is common and affects a huge percentage of men around the world. Unfortunately erectile dysfunction is a very real side effect of such a radical surgery. But men can get real and very discrete solutions with online prescriptions such as Viagra. More than half a million Americans will die of cancer this year, and in men, prostate cancer is second only to lung cancer as a cause of death. Prostate cancer is the most common non-skin cancer in America, affecting about 16 percent of men. According to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, more than 186,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2008, and more than 28,000 men will die from the disease. A new case occurs every two-and-a-half minutes, and a man dies from prostate cancer every 19 minutes. When it's caught early, prostate cancer can be stopped in a majority of men. But this disease, not to mention its treatment, can have a profound effect on a man's ability to perform sexually. Duration of erectile dysfunction following surgery If a man requires prostate surgery, or radical prostatectomy, for prostate cancer, his life, especially his sex life, may be changed forever. It is important to remember that surgery of any kind is a traumatic procedure and it takes time for the body to heal and recover. In the event of this type of surgery, the ability to achieve an erection will also take time, but many men will see an improvement in their erections over time, especially men who had no difficulty achieving a good erection before the surgery. In the first three months to a year following radical prostatectomy, most men will not be able to achieve a spontaneous erection, and will probably require an erectile dysfunction medication that can be bought through an online pharmacy, such as Viagra, to attain an erection. Radiation therapy Unlike radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer, radiation therapy may cause problems slowly and over time. The main cause of erectile dysfunction following radiation is damage to the blood vessels supplying the nerves responsible for erections. Cryosurgery Cryosurgery, or the technique of using extreme cold to treat tumors in cancer, can have permanent negative effects. When the prostate gland is frozen the nerve bundles controlling erections can often be permanently damaged. Treating erectile dysfunction after prostate cancer treatment Viagra is an oral erectile dysfunction medication that works by promoting increased blood flow to produce an erection when the penis is manually stimulated, and can be obtained through a reputable online pharmacy. Viagra does not improve sex drive, only erections. Studies have shown that men with erectile dysfunction after prostatectomy respond well to Viagra if the nerve bundles on both sides of the prostate are intact. But Viagra is normally not effective if one or both nerve bundles have been damaged. Other possible solutions to helping a man regain his facility to produce an erection after prostate treatment include penile medication injections, use of a vacuum constriction or vacuum erection device (which is very costly), or a penile implant, a prosthetic device surgically implanted inside the penis. The bottom line is that a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test for prostate cancer is recommended annually for men over 50, or even earlier for men with a family history of prostate cancer. Without our health we've got nothing, and nothing makes a man feel like less of a man than the inability to perform. So you need to take care of yourself, and know all the medical options that exist for you in today's modern world. I was told by a specialist I had Prostate Cancer and he wanted to start treaments right away, and treat it ver
He said he wanted to start treatments right away, very aggresively, I wanted more tests and another opinion, well he backed off, and I found out he has done this before. I did not and do not have cancer. Should I get a lawyer?

Unless he actually treated you, charged you money, and caused you harm, what would you sue him for? If you say he lied to you and it scared you all he has to do is say his diagnosis was wrong. Change doctors and get on with your life.
2 :
You were smart to get a second opinion - hopefully from a reputable cancer specialist MD. Whether you obtain a lawyer or not is up to you. I would be thankful to find out I did not have prostate cancer. But can you be certain that the second doctor is right? It is a matter of biopsy proof whether malignancy exists. Having biopsy slides reviewed by other observers is reasonable, but sometimes disagreements between pathologists can be confusing. Then only the "test of time" will show whether you have a dangerous medical condition or not. Medicine is not a perfect science, and cancers are not always predictable - especially prostate cancers.

Is it possible for a 16 year old boy to have prostate cancer

Is it possible for a 16 year old boy to have prostate cancer?
If not, what testicular problems are possible? Because I have some sort of lump that hurts. No need to inform me to see a doctor, I'm well aware I should, just looking for some opinions. Like I said I'm just wondering what people have to say before I can go to the doctor, today is Sunday, the doctors office is closed, tomorrow is a holiday, I'm just being proactive trying to understand any possible problems beforehand.
Yes, my bad, I meant any testicular problems, I'm not entirely comprehensive with these kinds of things.

Well if you have a prostate you can get prostate cancer. This is like asking if a guy can get "breast" cancer. It may be rare but that doesn't make it impossible.
2 :
Unfortunately, yes. Good luck and Gold Bless you!
3 :
If you are well aware of the fact that you need to see a doctor - then why are you bothering asking Men's Health? Are you hoping someone will tell you something you WANT to hear? Get yourself to a doctor like you know you should & get it checked out.
4 :
Hey, bro. The lump is nothing to worry about. It may be just a pimple of some kind (yes, it's possible to get some down there) or it may be this harmless trait that about 60% of men have. Lemme find the link to it. Here it is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fordyce%27s_spot
5 :
testicular problems are different fro prostate problems... which would make it testicular cancer i say see a doctor and let them decide
6 :
This would not be anything to do with your prostate. It has to do with your testicle. As you are aware, you need to see the doctor, and I am glad you recognize this. To ease your mind, there are many other reasons that you could have a painful lump on your testicle. One possibility is epididymitis, an infection of the epididymis, which is where the spermatic cord (vas deferens) attaches to the testis. It is located on the back of the testis. An infection or inflammation there can feel like a lump, and is quite painful. (I've had this myself.) Another possibility is a cyst. This could also be like what you're describing. Yet another possibility is a testicular torsion, a twisting of the spermatic cord (vas deferens). This could also cause swelling which feels like a lump. It is quite painful. Again, I'm glad you are willing to see a doctor. Chances are very, very good that this is something fairly easy to treat. Good luck.
7 :
Unfortunately it is possible, but very unlikely. You need to go and see your doctor as you have said you will. Have a look at this article. I do hope that it helps http://www.prostatehealthnews.org/what-causes-prostate-cancer.html I wish you sincere luck

Does lack of ejaculation lead to prostate cancer or any other ailments

Does lack of ejaculation lead to prostate cancer or any other ailments?
I am 60. Recently a practitioner told me that the prostate is a sex organ. Another said, if not evacuated regularly, it can lead to health problems.

I have read that it can have an effect on several health issues. So to relieve the problem since I am single again I just relieve myself. Not only this may help prevent health problems, it is also pleasurable. Try this aproach, it can't hurt.

The prostrate is a sex organ. It's the male G spot. What researcher's have found is that males that masturbated frequently up to about age 30 have less prostrate cancer later in life. So, if you are not having prostrate problems now, I'd say get to work to try to stay health. A very high percentage of males have prostrate cancer when they are older. The good part of it is that it's slow progressing, and there is even talk of not treating after you are 70. It seems the treatment is worse than just living with it since it's relatively pain free normally. You just can't pee
