My husband has had skin cancer twice and also prostate cancer

My husband has had skin cancer twice and also prostate cancer?
Is he more likely to get another kind of cancer, or is it all random? Both skin cancers were on his face, and he had his prostate removed. He's 65, and in excellent shape. Thank you.

LadyLynn - The simple answer is NO, BUT he is more likely to get one or more skin cancers of the type he just had. Most likely to repeat is the relatively benign basal cell cancer (carcinoma) which usually occurs on the sun-exposed skin of the head, such as the face and ears. He is not more likely to get another type of cancer internally. It would be good for him to make a visit to his dermatologist once a year to have a skin check for any new lesions,

Contemplating if I should get screened for prostate cancer

Contemplating if I should get screened for prostate cancer?
My uncle keeps harassing me to get a prostate cancer screening but I’m scared as SH#T both my father and older brother died of prostate cancer we very much are aware the gene runs in the family. So should I just go and get screened even though I’m only 18 years old?

It is always better to be safe then sorry. If they find something at your age a cure is available:not after you have been walking around with symptoms for twenty years already:then you are way to late. So get it done Colors
2 :
i would DEFINATLY get screened. what is there to lose? just do it.
3 :
Listen to your uncle. He is concerned - and you should be, too.
4 :
You should definitely get screened. I know a friend who had cancer but beat it after the 5 years of it being malignant. If you act now, the same can happen for you! If you have any questions on it, check out this website it has a lot of information that I passed on to my son because it runs in our genes too.

Anyone know how deadly cancer of the prostate is

Anyone know how deadly cancer of the prostate is?
My older brother was diagnosed last week with prostate cancer. He has it on both sides. The doctors told him on a scale from 0 to 10 he is a 7. I have been worried ever since he was told. I have heard that its not that deadly compared to other forms of cancer. I hope not anyway. Thanks for any and all help on this.

Well, you really should be asking your brother what the doctor thinks and what they are going to do about it. When it's caught early, it's very treatable. Even at a later stage, it can be treated, but there will be more complications if it has metastized. Those are the things you really need to find out. Good luck, thinking good thoughts for your your brother and your family!

that really stinks. you know there is a new prostate cancer vaccine currently in clinical trials called Provenge. you should look this up with the FDA, last i saw it should be coming out this year, you should ask about clinical trials.

Besides Cancer, What Are The Causes of an Enlarged Prostate

Besides Cancer, What Are The Causes of an Enlarged Prostate?
Hello Everyone, If your doctor has determined that you do NOT have prostate cancer, but have a large prostate, what causes this to happen in the first place? I am aware that frequent urination is a main sign of an enlarged prostate, but what causes the prostate to grow in the first place? Jeff

Why is there so much fundraising for Breast Cancer ? But not for Prostate Cancer

Why is there so much fundraising for Breast Cancer ? But not for Prostate Cancer ?
I see alot of charity and publicity about Breast Cancer. I even bought a book of stamps with proceeds going to Breast Cancer research. But what about men ? Men are just as likely to get Prostate Cancer and much more likely to die from prostate cancer. Because men rarely get checkups for it.... until it's too late. For Women, early detection is key to fighting Breast Cancer. Same goes for Men.
But there has been so little publicity for Men to get examined. Why the difference of the sexes ?

Breast cancer is much more publicized and seen, to the public, as much a more "curable" condition (I know it is the same in early detection, but not so with later detection). "Marketing" has everything to do with this because most people have a family member, have had or personally know of somebody with or who has died/recovered from breast cancer. Probably not the case with prostate cancer which usually affects men >50, and rarely <50, where breast cancer is seen hitting women of all ages, although most common >50)
2 :
Because breast cancer is a very fast growing type of cancer and prostate cancer is the slowest growing cancer known. http://www.prostatecancerfoundation.org/site/c.itIWK2OSG/b.47285/k.CCF1/Detection__Screening.htm
3 :
Here's my guess. Women are more likely to organize fundraisers, do volunteer work, and push for charitable causes. Not to say that many men don't do this too but the numbers of women far outweigh the men. Also, prostate cancer was historically a hush, hush subject because of it's "below the belt" nature. Jump on the coat tails of successful fundraising organizations like Relay for Life, Race for the Cure, and so on. Ask local Breast Cancer organizations to partner with one for prostate cancer and work jointly in your fundraising efforts. It's a good way to draw attention to your cause from like minded people and you won't have to reinvent the wheel. For more fundraising ideas for your cause, visit http://www.fundraiserhelp.com/charity-events.htm Appeal to the male population by hosting a golf tournament or casino night gala. If you do your event in conjunction with a breast cancer organization, stir up some friendly competition with a Boobs vs. Butts fundraiser.

false its a myth

The opposite is probably closer to the truth. They used to say that you would go blind, too.... gees.
3 :
not true.
4 :
No, of course not!
5 :
It's actually been shown in some studies to reduce the risk of prostate cancer. As long as you don't over do it, there have been zero proven negative side affects.
6 :
Masturbation does NOT cause prostate cancer -- actually, it tends to reduce the chances of getting it. Masturbation has zero negative side affects.
7 :
If that was true, I would have died a long time ago. I'm 55 and I've been masturbating since I was 14. When I was younger I masturbated 3 or 4 times a day.
8 :
no. It says It cannot cause it.

Can Prostate cancer come back after 17 years

Can Prostate cancer come back after 17 years?
My father was diagnosed with prostate cancer in '91 and had a radical prostate removal and some radiation treatment. Now after all that time his PSA levels are starting to go up and he has some enlarged lymph nodes around his kidneys.
I've never heard of this type of cancer coming back after so long.

anyone who has ever had any kind of cancer is at risk for recurring cancer, and it doesn't have to be the same cancer or in the same place. Having it once, apparently makes you prone to having it again.
2 :
Yes, it can come back. It happened to my husband.
3 :
it's possible, hope he is getting checked out even if just to put his mind at rest

What stage is vomiting with prostate cancer

what stage is vomiting with prostate cancer?
My grandfather has prostate cancer and he has been vomiting the last couple of days. Does it mean it's getting worse? What stage would that be? Yes he has been getting check ups. He goes again this week to two different doctors. He is also very weak. He has not done chemo He is also sleeping a lot and he never used to. He has been diagnosed with it about two years ago.

Sounds like more than just prostate, maybe spreading. I never had nausea, even though it spread into my bladder. Has he had regular checkups?
2 :
If your Grandfather is on chemo treatments, that may be what is causing his vomitting. All the best to him.
3 :
Here are some advice to your grandfather and how he deal with prostate cancer. Maintaining good nutrition for Prostate Cancer is essential to help combating the side-effects of prostate cancer treatment. This can give you more energy and you will probably also feel better. • Maintain a Basic Calorie Intake - Maintain the basic calorie needs of your body while dealing with prostate cancer is important. If you suffer from prostate cancer and you maintain a stable weight, then the estimated calorie intake is possibly about fifteen calories per pound of weight. If you are losing weight, then you might add five hundred calories every day. For example, if a person weighs 160 pounds, then the caloric intake of the person should be 2,260 calories each day to maintain a stable weight. • Take Protein Each Day to Tackle Prostate Cancer - Proteins help the body in repairing and rebuilding damaged body tissue by prostate cancer. An estimated protein intake might be 0.5 to 0.6 grams for every pound of body weight. For example, a person weighing one hundred and fifty pounds requires around seventy-five to ninety grams of protein intake per day. Foods that are rich in proteins are dairy products, meat, eggs, fish and legumes - especially beans. 8 oz of milk - 8 grams of protein. One ounce of fish, meat or poultry - 7 grams of protein • Drink Enough Fluids - Drink around eight cups of fluids each day. This is the best way of preventing dehydration. Fluids can be water, milk, juice, milkshakes, gelatine, broths and other beverages. Avoid fluids that contain caffeine or excess sugar. However, if prostate cancer treatment's side effect is diarrhoea and vomiting, then you will need to consume extra fluids. • Enough Vitamins- If your food is not vitamin-rich, then you may need to take vitamin supplements. Natural sources of vitamins include nuts, olive oil, seeds, avocado oil, non-fat milk, peas and wheat germ. • Foods That Are Rich in Lycopene and Quercetin - These plant pigments promote health and may have cancer-fighting abilities. Foods that are rich in lycopene are watermelons, papaya, red grapefruit, red berries and tomatoes. Quercetin has anti-inflammatory and antihistamine properties that may be beneficial in reducing the pain of the inflamed prostate. Foods that are rich in quercetin are green and black tea, apples, onions, red wine, citrus fruits, raspberries, red grapes, broccoli, citrus fruits, cherries and leafy green vegetables. you can get a good advice here: http://www.ehealth4you.com
