Many women can participate in any walks, including walk for prostate cancer. The walk is a sports event, so, no reason women cannot participate. I believe the organizer will also display information on prostate cancer. Its good to understand more about the disease. Enjoy yourself... :-)
2 :
When and where is it? I will try and participate but I'm still very weak from finishing my 14 weeks of chemo from my breast cancer...
3 :
None will refuse. All will participate. All will participate for this noble cause. You just organise one walk and see the result your self. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Have you ever know of anyone to survive prostate cancer

Have you ever know of anyone to survive prostate cancer?

I actually know of two men who have beaten prostate cancer. No cancer is fun, but prostate is one of the more easily treated cancers. Especially when found early, your dad has a good chance of survival.
2 :
Oh yes, all kinds of people. Robert DeNiro and Colin Powell are 2 who come to mind. http://cancer.about.com/od/prostatecancer/a/famoussurvivors.htm http://health.lifestyle.yahoo.ca/condition_info_details.asp?disease_id=108 Remember though: Your dad's life is in the Lord's hands. His timing is perfect.
3 :
All of the time. One of the most treatable cancers. In fact the 5 year survival rate for all prostate cancer is 99.7 %, 100% if the cancer is confined to the prostate. In some case treatment is not needed and the patient and doctor agree to monitor the progressing of the cancer. Prostate cancer progresses very slowly. Once the cancer spreads to the bone is when it becomes very difficult to treat.
4 :
Actually the man I work with just got the news that he is officially in remission from prostate cancer, it helps that he found it early too.
5 :
Yes, I have. 8 People so far. It is one of the most curable cancers out there. Don't worry, he'll be fine.
6 :
My brother in law and my dentist are both prostate cancer survivors and doing very well today. If the doctor told your dad its curable then dont worry because its one cancer that has a high survival rate when it is caught early enough.
7 :
To help your dad and understand what he is going through educate yourself. Start with this link
8 :
Yes me, I am a cancer survivor. It has been over ten years since I had radiation and chemo treatments for prostrate cancer. I just had a checkup two days ago and all is still going well. The success rate is very high. Please contact me by e-mail if you want to talk more about this.
9 :
In general, the earlier the cancer is caught, the more likely it is for the patient to remain disease-free. Because approximately 90% of all prostate cancers are detected in the local and regional stages, the cure rate for prostate cancer is very high—nearly 100%. And I believe by courage and prayers it is curable even it is caught at its last stage. Be brave and support your father and never let him disappointed. http://www.prostatecancerfoundation.org/site/c.itIWK2OSG/b.4983495/k.5C76/About_Prostate_Cancer.htm

What causes prostate cancer?
I read a study that shows that Black men have a higher chance than getting prostate cancer than, White men and Asian men have less chance of getting it. Why is it that black men have a higher risk of prostate cancer? can a study show why that it appear mostly with black men?

A baseball team in my area had a "Strike Out Prostate Cancer" event. They sold blue t-shirts with the above logo/ribbon on it and all the proceeds from that and concessions went to prostate cancer research. I bought t-shirts for my whole family in memory of my father who died of metastatic prostate cancer in Jan. 2008. RIP Daddy. :(
2 :
Sure do. I have donated to four men participating in Movember. Funnily enough I had to chase them down and ask if they wanted a donation as they weren't keen on promoting it. Are you growing a mo for Movember Sofaking? I'm sure you would be as you are so interested in promoting cancer awareness. Please post the donation site and I will donate for you as well.

We have the USC Prostrate Cancer 5K next weekend here in Los Angeles. Here's the link - there's a place here to donate to the cause if you can't make it to the 5K....it has a huge cancer research hospital - the USC Kenneth Norris Cancer Hospital. It's only a 60 bed hospital that does a lot of new techniques for treating cancer patients - especially for those patients that traditional treatment is not working or not an option. I'm sure they can really use the fundraising for their research/hospital. http://www.uscurology.com/prostate-5k Good luck.

Second opinioin on prostate cancer - what is the purpose

Second opinioin on prostate cancer - what is the purpose?
I was just been informed that I have high grade prostate cancer on the left side of the prostate. None show cancer on the right side.. I like to get a "second opinion", but I am not sure what is to be examed. Is it the biopsy core? Is it the biopsy report? Or ???
Cancer - 3 Answers

1 :
If you want a second opinion, the second doctor will probably want to do another prostate exam and biopsy- and he/she will probably also want a copy of your medical records. Don't sit around and wait on this one though- make sure you follow through as soon as possible. Prostate cancer is treatable! good luck.
2 :
Prostate cancer is one of the most controversial forms of the disease, because there are several means of treatment and each specialty Isurgeon.urologist, radiation oncologist, etc, will recommend what his/her specialty is. There is also brachytherapy (seeds), and in advanced cases Hormones or chemotherapy, and even other methods of treatment. So it is a confusing and frustrating situation because some of these have potentially devastating side effects such as incontinence and impotence. So two things: 1. You need to have the biopsy sent to an expert pathologist for a second opinion on the Gleason Score, because the treatment you need is extremely dependent on your Gleason (and PSA). 2. You need to go to a specialist that practices a different method of treatment for a second opinion on "what to do." Only in this way will you start to see that you must educate yourself about the disease before you choose a treatment. Before you decide, please investigate proton beam therapy. The purpose id think is to make sure the first biopsy was correct... I had prostate cancer in 2005 and was treated with proton radiation in Loma Linda California at the Loma Linda Universty Medical Center .. Proton Radiation is very different from conventional radiation..Proton Radiation has a 90% cure rate and no side effects to speak of.. It is like I am cured and was never sick.. There is a website called Proton Bob that tells alot about Prostate Cancer and Proton Radiation.. If you check the website,,,be sure and read the Patient Testimonal section.. It is great.. You will find that any one who has had Prostate Cancer and was treated with Proton Radiation is completely sold on the Proton treatments... and why not a 90% cure rate and no side effects.. I was not sick one single day during or after my treatments.. myPSA is now .13 I no longer have prostate cancer.. and everything works just like I never had cancer or radiation... Also there is a book just recently out called YOU CAN BEAT PROSTATE CANCER. It was written by Robert J. Marckini a prostate cancer survivor.. It tells all about prostate cancer and then tells about all of the different treatment options available today plus the pros and cons and side effects of each treatment.. any one with prostate cancer should read the book before deciding on a treatment... It is great.. My advice would be for you to decide what treatment you want your self and not just let your urologist treat you the way he was trained.. Personally I think Proton Radiation is the very best treatment for prostate cancer.. I hope you do good .. if you get the proper treatment you will be fine...If you have any questions about my experience with prostate cancer or proton radiation treatments feel free to email me here on yahoo answers.. also the book I was speaking of can be purchased at barnes and nobles and other book stores.. plus you can order it on line at the Proton Bob website.. have a good day..

Which treatment for prostate cancer has the least side effects

Which treatment for prostate cancer has the least side effects.?
I was recently diagnosed with early stage prostate cancer and am deciding on treatment. They all seem to have the same dismal side effects. Which one would you say has the least (or most livable) side effects?

What are your choices at this time???
2 :
My dad was diagnosed with stage 3 prostate cancer and he decided on a radical perineal prostatetomy. In the long-term this has probably the least side effects. The biggest complaint my dad had was the discomfort post-op. Also the recovery is progressive, it can only get better.
3 :
There is one treatment in which radioactive needles are implanted in the tumor for a kind of localized radiotherapy. This has the advantage of avoiding prostatectomy and the associated risks of losing bladder function. Antiandrogen + LHRH superagonist can also be used for hormonal suppression in case the tumor is androgen-dependant (that is, most cases). Sometimes, surgery can be avoided that way, when there is complete response and elimination of the tumor. But be aware that hormonal suppression can cause impotency, though the effect is reversible.
4 :
a close friend of mine had a little radioactive seed implanted in his prostate. He says it is about the size of a grain of rice, kills cancer cells over a period of time. His cancer is very slow growing and he is in his early 60's, so they think this is the best least invasive way to do it. I had radiation treatments for another type and location of cancer,, but saw several men at the clinic having radiation on their prostate. I believe it was for a faster growing type.

Are feminists who advocate for increased prostate cancer research defecting or breaking rank

Are feminists who advocate for increased prostate cancer research defecting or breaking rank?
Or should they just follow the party line and obfuscate the issue?
Gender Studies - 6 Answers

1 :
I don't know what you think feminism it, but there is no breaking rank if a woman chooses to support a cause. It is not an organization or party, it's simply supporting women. Most feminist have fathers, husbands, sons and brothers so why wouldn't they want to advocate for their health too? There is a real temptation here to characterize feminists as being capable of only one thought or purpose. This may shock you but we are also humans with families, friends, memories and everything that you have. I'm sure there are feminists who advocate for this research, they just may not be doing in through a feminist group. For example, I'm a feminist active in feminist causes but I have also supported homlessness, the heart and stroke foundation, diabetes research, cancer, childhood disabilities and Scouting.
2 :
They are just keeping up the friendly front while the evil deeds go on unseen by the general public. until it's too late.
3 :
that is against their political ideology funny how breast cancers gets billions of dollar each year prostate cancer would be lucky to get 2 million total in research funds. feminism is war against men.. and men should respond accordingly
4 :
They're doing nothing that has anything to do with feminism. I say people should advocate for increased research of ALL cancers.
5 :
I'd be interested to see whether there really are feminists who advocate for increased p/c research. Most would argue that funding is needed mostly for female issues and do their most to marginalize p/c. If these feminists exist, could you perhaps supply some evidence as this is ground-breaking news.
6 :
NO.
