Prostate cancer can spread to the bones. This does not mean that you have bone cancer, but that some of the prostate cancer cells have spread to some areas of bone. This is called secondary prostate cancer. The areas of spread are called ‘bone secondaries’ or ‘bone metastases’. In the following information we use the term ‘metastases’ to describe prostate cancer that has spread to the bone. Up to eight out of ten men (80 per cent of men) with advanced prostate cancer will have bone metastases. 1 The growth of the cancer within the bone damages the bone structure and tissue and can cause pain. Finding bone metastases early helps your specialist team work out the best way to treat them and prevent new metastases forming. The first areas of bone to be affected are likely to be those closest to your prostate including your pelvic bone, hips, lower spine and upper thighs. Pain in these areas can affect how you walk and move around. The pain may only be in one area but over time it can spread to several parts of your body. Men who have bone pain often describe it as a dull aching or stabbing that can get worse with movement. The cancer cells affect the normal strength and performance of your bones, leading to pain and weakening of the bone. There are several effective ways of treating pain caused by bone metastases.

Malignancies that have spread from their origin to one or more distant locations are known as metastasized cancer. This is what your grandfather has. Unfortunately, the long term prognosis for patients like him is very poor. Your grandfather may be offered chemotherapy and radiation treatment in an attempt to slow or temporarily stop the cancer's advance. There are trade-offs and substantial risks with treatment, so it may not be appropriate for all patients like him. Ultimately, you grandfather will make the decision about how aggressively he wants to treat the illness. Here is a link to the authoritative Merck Manual's chapter on prostate cancer. It provides a wealth of information regarding diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis.

Im worried that masturbating causes prostate cancer?
there was a study on WebMD that said it causes prostate cancer does it?
Men's Health - 7 Answers

1 :
No. Masturbattion doesn't cause prostate canccer. If it would cause cancer, all human race would have gone by now. Almost every man, do masturbation in his life. Masturbation is a very healthy sexual activity and does not has any side effects. The only side effect of masturbation is the guilty feeling that some people has after doing it. They feel that they have done something wrong. Give away this wrong feeling and its all normal.
2 :
yeh if you masturbate more then once a month your prostate will be producing to much polymanic [ thats the milk that the sperms swim in] and you get prostate really young. maybe you should ask you doctor to test you out the first prostate check is the most painful feeling in the world because three fingers go deep into your anus to pich the back of you balls. most NORMAL men don't masturbate more then TWICE a year unless your a VIRGIN or have extreme mental problems .
3 :
No. Are you sure you read this article correctly. Scientific evidence says masturbation PREVENTS prostate cancer. M.
4 :
No it does no such thing:it prevents you from getting prostate cancer later in live. So masturbate on It is good for you Colors
5 :
You might have miss-read that article as the general consensus of the intelligent medical field points in the opposite direction. More forward thinking health groups now admit that masturbation is good for you. It helps to promote a healthy reproductive system, it reduces the chances of developing prostate cancer later in life, it reduces stress, it elevates your heart rate, and leaves you with a calm, relaxed feeling when you are done. None of this is bad for you. Now,...for some real-life useful information about masturbation because it seems your parents have not given you the facts. No, masturbation will not make you go blind, no, masturbation does not give you hairy palms, no, masturbation is not a one-way ticket to hell, no, masturbation will not spoil your ability to father healthy children later in life, no, you cannot run out of your lifetime supply as your body produces it over the course of your whole life, but you can exhaust your daily supply by masturbating several times in one day, A good night's sleep will fix that up. It is very normal for a young man to masturbate several times a day. Your body will tell you when it has had enough by not giving you the urge to do it again until you have rested. Every man, woman, teenage boy, and girl masturbate. If they say they don't, they are either lying or dying. Masturbation is a personal, private thing and no one wants to walk in on you. Find a quiet time and place, relax, and enjoy this natural, healthy rite of passage into manhood. With some much crime going on in the world, the gods have bigger fish to fry than a young man pleasuring himself. Mithras
6 :
no it don,t ! you better read that again. if that was true then the hospitals would be crowded with patients.
7 :
Well if masturbation causes prostate cancer, which is totally false- then sex with a girl will also. Because masturbation is simply solo sex- using your hand instead of a vagina to accomplish the same phsyiological act- achieve climax and ejaculate semen. And feel good. So if you believe that crap that you will get prostate cancer from having solo sex, then plan to not have regular intercourse either, would do the same thing. Studies, true medical ones, show that males who do not regularly ejaculate, whether solo or with a partner, have much higher incidents of prostate cancer than those who do ejaculate regularly. Your body is designed to ejaculate, that's why you have that gear down there. So makes since that if you don't allow for normal bodily functions like ejaculation you might be harming your body.

What happens when prostate cancer returns for the 3rd time knowing that the prostate has been removed

what happens when prostate cancer returns for the 3rd time knowing that the prostate has been removed?
the psa level is 8.21, and the doctor says the cancer is back but unsure where. How high can the psa level go

If the prostate has been removed and the most recent tests show cancerous cells, then the cancer has spread beyond primary cancer site. 3rd time is not a charm in this case...Going by your username, are you a female??
2 :
I’ve seen PSAs in the thousands. It can often elevate long before mets show up on imaging. Not knowing what treatment you have had other than a prostatectomy, your age, stage and grade of your cancer you are going to have to ask your urologist. For now he will probably continue to monitor you.
3 :
I don't know I thought the level was a negative or positive I'll have to look that up myself. But on the other hand if the prostate gland was removed it's gone and the cancer left with it. But the unfortunate thing about cancer is it likes to spread to other areas of the body. Perhaps the cancerous gland had not been removed in time. At what stage was the cancer when it was diagnosed? And how long did you wait til you decided that the prostate had to go? You see all of these play a major role in the spreading of the cancer. But to say that the test still showed positve and the gland no longer exist does not really make sense. The cancer must have spread to some other organ or part of the body. I hate to hear that, I'm no doctor but I'd sure be asking my doctor a ton of questions. And demand the answers, don't just settle for the first thing that they tell you either. Get the answer that you need to survive.

I'm 15 years old and think I have prostate cancer

I'm 15 years old and think I have prostate cancer?
Sometimes when I urinate (usually in the morning), I have a very weak urine flow and my pee just repeatedly pumps up my penis like it's about to come out but it doesn't come out, this happens a few times before it can finally come out.
o I have prostate cancer or some sort of prostate disease? Is something blocked?

1 :
Ask a doctor.
2 :
I'm not a health care professional, but I know there are many processes which impede the flow of urine. Prostate cancer takes many years to develop and is usually a disease of men in their 60s or older. Start with your regular family doctor, who may refer you to a urologist. My guess--and that's all it is, a guess--is that somewhere next to the ureter, something is swollen, which presses the ureter partially closed.
3 :
Prostate cancer in a 15 yr/o is not likely, but I understand why you would think that with the symptom you describe. The whole urinary system from the kidneys to the bladder & out, are basically formed from collection areas and small tubes. Kidneys get stones which can get stuck about anywhere, small tubes can get blocked by various reasons, and so on. So don't jump to the worst just yet. Tell your Mom you need to see a doc & why, and get the process started. If your regular doc can't handle it, they will refer you to a urologist.
4 :
You do not have prostate cancer. Prostatic enlargement is a normal part of puberty, when the prostate doubles in size. These symptoms are common in someone of your age but will subside with time, until you are much older and the prostate again begins to enlarge (benign prostatic hypertrophy). That is the point at which you'll have to start getting screened regularly to watch out for prostate cancer.
5 :
only affects men over 40 you may have an infection http://everyman-campaign.org/
6 :
Very unlikely to be prostate cancer in someone your age, its an old man's disease, but you do seem to have some problem and you really need to see a doctor about this.
7 :
Prostate cancer is highly unlikely for a 15 year old. You may be suffering from a bladder infection. Check with your doctor. For more information go to http://www.impotenceprostate.com/

What do you know about Prostate Cancer and treatment

What do you know about Prostate Cancer and treatment?
I just found out that my dad has this and he's not very good about giving me details about the seriousness of this disease. He says he has to go through chemo and Radiation? Does anybody know more about this disease?

Go to Webmd.com, you'll get mucho info there -- I did.

I'm very sorry to hear that.... My father had it and it depends on when they actually "catch" it.....like what stage the cancer is in. My dad's was stage 2 and they did surgery~removed part of, or the whole prostate (not sure) and then he had the chemo and radiation. He was cured...thank God. The fact of it is, is that they caught your dads and should be able to take care of it with what they are going to do. The chemo will make him very tired, he will lose his hair, he'll lose weight and his immune system will be down......that's very important for him NOT to be around anyone that is sick with anything (and going out in public is not recommended)!!!!!! I wish your dad the best and just do a lot of praying~that helped us the most. You can go to www.cancer.gov and learn more about the disease. I hope this helps you some.....

Prostate Cancer is a malignant growth of the glandular cells of the prostate. Abnormal growth of cells is called a Tumor. Tumors can be benign (noncancerous) or malignant (cancerous). A malignancy is a cancerous growth that has the potential to spread and cause damage to other tissues of the body. Cancers can spread locally into surrounding tissues, or cancer cells can break away from the tumor and enter the body through fluids, like blood or lymph, and spread to other parts of the body. Lymph is an almost clear fluid that drains waste from cells. This fluid travels in vessels to the lymph nodes, small bean-shaped structures that filter unwanted substances, such as cancer cells and bacteria, out of the fluid. Lymph nodes may become filled with cancer cells. As the prostate cancer grows, it grows through the prostate, the prostate capsule, and the fat that surrounds the prostate capsule. Because the prostate gland lies below the bladder and is attached to it, the prostate cancer can also grow into the base of the bladder. It may continue to grow locally in the pelvis into the muscles within the pelvis; into the rectum, which lies behind the prostate; or into the sidewall of the pelvis. When prosate cancer spreads outside of the capsule and the fatty tissue, it usually goes to two main areas in the body: the lymph nodes that drain the prostate and the bones. Bones that are commonly affected are the spine and the ribs. Various treatment options are available for prostate cancer, each with its own risks and benefits. The treatments for prostate cancer can be divided into those that are intended to "cure" prostate cancer and those that are palliative, itended to slow down the growth of the prostate cancer and treat its symptoms. Your dad has chosen a course of treatment in consultation with his doctor that is designed to cure his cancer at the earliest stages. I have chosen a different treatment, so I can't give you more information about his therapy. I do have a link to a website that I think will be helpful to you in your search for information and support. Cancer affects not only the person with the diagnonsis, but all those around who love them. Good luck in the journey your family is about to start. TonyM http://www.yananow.net/

How many radiation sessions are the usual for prostate cancer

How many radiation sessions are the usual for prostate cancer?
I know it varies depending on the patient, but I was wondering it since a person I really care about is going to take just under 40 sessions. He just got a successful radical prostatectomy and no spreading was found during surgery, but the urologist said that radiation therapy was needed to assure no remaining cancerous cells are left. So I also want to know if we must expect the same intensity in the treatment and therefore the same intensity in side effects because of the radiation...

about it you can get information from here http://fdoctors29.notlong.com/9AANU2R
2 :
I find it interesting they are proposing 40 sessions when they found nothing to warrant it during surgery. Did they do a bone scan to see if the cancer spread anywhere else. My doctors told me that since they couldn't see anything in the bone scan they didn't want to expose me to radiation unless it was absolutely necessary. Good luck
3 :
External beam radiation is very focused and has few side effects. Thirty or more sessions does not sound unusual. The surgery will have had far more side effects than the radiation therapy. It is an outpatient treatment and doesn't affect one's ability to work, walk or drive.
