A great deal of information with diagrams is available about Prostate Cancer at the web site of the National Cancer Institute. There are different types of treatment for patients with prostate cancer. Four types of standard treatment are used: Watchful waiting Surgery Radiation therapy Hormone therapy New types of treatment are being tested in clinical trials. Cryosurgery Chemotherapy Biologic therapy High-intensity focused ultrasound Patients may want to think about taking part in a clinical trial. Patients can enter clinical trials before, during, or after starting their cancer treatment. Follow-up tests may be needed.

nobody knows the exact auses for cancer, could be pollution, could be engineered food additives or some can be naturally occuring
2 :
If you live to be old.. you will most likely die with prostate cancer... but most likely not from it. There is nothing to cause you to get prostate cancer or to prevent it.
3 :
No, because that type of sex means your prostate is functioning on overtime. Prostate and other cancers are to do with lifestyle, dietary choices (bad ones), poor health, self-esteem, continually ignoring the 'signs', environment, stress, etc.
4 :
When the DNA in your cells changes due to an external cause. Usually these cells die, but when they begin to multiply and take over the natural cells, it causes cancer. Its much more advanced than that (trust me, 16 weeks of med school just on it), but that is as simple as I can put it. And no, by stopping during sex and not ejaculating will not cause prostate cancer. Infact, ejaculation lowers the risk of prostate cancer. So your fine buddy
5 :
it could they say not beating off enough causes prostate cancer if you practice kama sutra you'll be good
6 :
LT's answer is about the most correct I've seen so far on this site regarding prostate cancer. quote: "If you live to be old.. you will most likely die with prostate cancer... but most likely not from it. There is nothing to cause you to get prostate cancer or to prevent it." unquote Autopsies done on men who have died from some cause other than prostate cancer have shown that men who live to be 70 y/o have about a 70% chance of having prostate cancer at the time of death; men who live to be 80 y/o have an 80% chance, etc. etc. However, medical science has not yet discovered the cause of prostate cancer or any method of prevention from getting it, except to not get old

I just found out my father has prostate cancer

I just found out my father has prostate cancer?
I just found out my dad has prostate cancer but he doesn't want me to tell my 2 other sisters or any other family. I've been very upset since knowing but unsure if I should break my fathers confidence and tell my sisters. What should I do? He has known for 2 years and his wife just told me yesterday.

Hunny let him cool down, && let him find the right time to tell your sisters, it will be better that way. && i will keep him in my prayers much love<33
2 :
It sounds as if your father is beginning to share the knowledge about his illness. Give him time, in a little while explain to him that you feel bad about not being able to talk to your two sisters. Explain that you love him and them and you would like to share with them so that you can support each other. It would be better if he or his wife told your sisters. If he doesn't want to tell them then I would phone someone like Macmillan and talk to them about how you should manage this difficult situation. I'm sure they have met it before! Then you can decide what to do. I hope things go as well as possible for you all.

I still have the Prostate cancer after the surgery. My Sister is the only one in my family that knows about it. The others in my family would be more concerned about the Will than my cancer. Sometimes the cancer can be removed and sometimes hormones will slow the growth. Let your Father make his own decisions about telling anyone. This is a very difficult and depressing time for him. I wish you the best of luck.
5 :
I'd be there to support him, but let them decide when to share the news. I'd be very hurt if someone had told my news before I was ready. Especially with prostate cancer and such-it's a very personal and private matter. My father in law has been in the clear from his prostate cancer for a few months now and only shared the news after he'd been cleared for months because he didn't want anyone to get their hopes up. Hopefully your father will be sharing good news with you all soon. Best of luck to you and yours!
6 :
well it could be healing or it could be bad. which one is it? if its going to clear up forget it alot ofthem do. but there are some of them that kill and there is nothing one can do then i would let them know they have the right to know.

Anyone with severe side effects after radioactive seed implants 4 prostate cancer like vesiculorectal fistula

Anyone with severe side effects after radioactive seed implants 4 prostate cancer like vesiculorectal fistula?
My father was overtreated with radiation for prostate cancer and has suffered some serious side effects. The latest is a large defect in the inner wall of the rectum which connects to the bladder and continuously drains urine.
Anyone with similar problems of urinary incontinence and or suggestions? This is a sensitive issue, please be empathetic.

5 years ago I had seed implants for prostate cancer and only someone like you or your dad would believe the side effects I have experienced! There are doctors that occaisionally visit this site and they will be quick to say that the medical literature doesn't support my blaming the seeds and the follow-up external beam radiation I was treated with for these side effects, HOWEVER: Before my treatments NONE of these conditions existed and withing 6 months of the treatments I developed: 1. A weight gain of over 70 pounds which I think was caused by the severe edema in both legs and feet I developed after the seed implants, which in turn may have caused - 2 Very painful neuropathy in both legs and feet AND: 3. Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) in both legs with a clot that made it to my lung (pulmonary embolism) 4. Total incontinence ( I can't start it, stop it and I never know when I am going to excrete urine, so I wear Depends 24/7) and have a permanent supra pubic catheter with collection bag (3 years now). The weight gain which I have been able to shed only 40 pounds of, I believe led to my diagnosis of type 1 (insulin dependent) diabetes several months ago. The weight gain also exacerbated my already existing arthritis in my knees and lower back plus the pubic catheter gives me a permanent "catheter infection" making surgery on my knees a no can do according to the orthopaedic surgeon. The prostate never healed after the initial radiation procedures and the several subsequent procedures that were undertaken to try to fix the damage may have made the problems worse. I have sometimes scary episodes of blood in the catheter. There is also the discomfort of the :diapers" and the at least once every six weeks changing of the catheter. End result of all this? I am rated 100% disabled and use a wheel chair. When the cancer was diagnosed I was phsyically able to do most anything within reason for a 60 year old. My brother, who is 5 years older than me, had the same treatments performed at Johns Hopkins in Maryland and he is playing golf, walking 18 holes, three or four time a week! Life is still good and I am doing my darndest to keep going. I have two new grand kids and a wonderful bunch of caring family and friends that make life worth while. But I have to admit, I never would have dreamed 5 years ago that I would be so excited about having a wheel chair lift mounted on the back of my car! My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your dad. I know some of what you are going through and I sincerely hope you both are getting through it. It sounds to me as if your dad and me have two very important things in common - we are both still alive and we both have caring family. This was very long and I hope there aren't too many errors.

Removal of Testes to cure prostate cancer

Removal of Testes to cure prostate cancer?
Hi, My father who is 71 years old is undergoing a surgery for removal of testes to control prostate cancer. If someone or their relatives have undergone surgery for removal of testes to control prostate cancer, may please share their post surgery experience, side effects and patients beviour.
Any suggestions would be very helpfull. Thanks.

Sorry, I've never heard of having the testes removed for prostate cancer, unless the cancer has spread. I'm only aware of having the prostate removed, which can cause incontinence, and erectile problems.
2 :
An orichectomy (surgical removal of the testes) will stop the production of testosterone, which prostate cancer cells need to grow, survive, and multiply. There are drug treatments available that trick the testes into not making testosterone, and this is reversable once the medication is discontinued. Unfortunatly, the medication is expensive (about $2000 for a 3-month injection) and Medicare doesn't cover but one of these meds, and that med is not one that is the most effective -- IMHO. Hopefully, your father's physician has also explained that there is something called an adrenal gland that sits on top of each kidney. The adrenal glands are responsible for about 10% of a male's testosterone production. Just removing the testes' testosterone will not remove all testosterone production in the body. And removal of the adrenal glands are not an option; it has been tried with disastrous results. The surgical procedure you are asking about is a very simple one; usually done on an out-patient basis. There are a lot of side-effects to loss of testosterone production. While my SO was on the chemical testosterone treatment he became very tired, had difficulty maintaining muscle mass, could get emotional & weepy. His skin also became very dry, he had hot flashes, his sleep was messed up, and he lost all interest in anything sexual. But it appears that we succeeded in starving the little beggers. There hasn't been any evidence of them in the year since he went off the hormone therapy. There are several meds available that block the testosterone receptors on the prostate cancer cells. I'm not familiar with their cost. The one that my SO took was Casodex. It is also in trials for mono-therapy (use alone). I belong to an online tribe of women who have husbands, SOs, fathers, brothers, friends who have been diagnosed with PCa. I've included the URL... please join us!!!

Why don't men have the same intensity to fight prostate cancer like women fight breast cancer?

The company said the successful trial means Provenge may represent the first in a new class of active cellular immunotherapies designed to engage the patient's own immune system against cancer. Because the data meet the criteria and specifications outlined in Dendreon's Special Protocol Assessment (SPA) agreement with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the company intends to move forward in the fourth quarter of this year to gain licensure of Provenge. I agree, and my family are avid contributors to the fighting cancer cause. "In 2006, Britain's net contribution to the EU budget was £3.9bn" If the UK Government stop wasting money on crap like the EU, I believe amazing advances in treatment could be discovered earlier. Just imagine if the UK Government gave even just a fraction of that £3.9 BILLION to Cancer research!!
9 :
I strongly disagree with you. My husband has prostate cancer and is very active in a group here in Atlanta. They spend a lot of time and effort setting up booths and such to educate people about the problem. He tells me that they are very disappointed that the media does little to promote their efforts, as it does with breast cancer.

The death rate from breast cancer is higher. By the time men get prostate cancer they are pretty old, and the disease can progress slowly. Also - woman will go in for mammograms. Men do not want to go in for a prostate exam, especially at 30 when prostate cancer won't get them until they are over 50.

19 :
It is not nearly as deadly as breast cancer... while they have similar rates of occurance, prostate cancer kills about 3% of those who get it while breast cancer kills about 8% or women dx'd with early stage and over 40% with later stages.
20 :
Good question. I don't know. I think they should.
21 :
There is already a cure for cancer but the elitists keep it secret to reduce world population. They have created and weaponized viruses like HIV/aids and in future bird flu to wipe out billions. see the Georgia Guide stones. Eventually the Rotschilds may even turn on the Rockerfellers
22 :
The simple reason is that Prostate cancer is rarely deadly. Nearly all men get it in the late stages of life. Most who do get diagnosed in their seventies or eighties die from other causes. Many men die with prostate cancer. Relatively few die from prostate cancer. The most common treatment for elderly men is 'Watchful Waiting" meaning you do nothing - because it is slow growing and not causing serious symptoms. It is different for younger men who get diagnosed, or older men who are otherwise healthy. The stage and speed of the cancer also comes into play. There are many treatment options and support groups for them. Without early diagnoses and aggressive treatment breast cancer is nearly always fatal. Prostate cancer rarely is because it is typically not very aggressive and because of the stage of life it typically occurs in. So it is hard to base a Breast-cancer-like national movement on a disease that while far more common, does not have any where near the death rate or impact on peoples lives.
23 :
It is because men usually get prostate cancer at a later age and are less apt to fight. To Jehen: I disagree with you that prostate cancer is rarely fatal. Prostate cancer can be very deadly and can spread rapidly. I lost someone I loved to prostate cancer. It was discovered early and he battled it for years. It spread and did horrible things to him before he died.

I need to know about symptoms after Prostate Cancer surgery

I need to know about symptoms after Prostate Cancer surgery?
My husband had complete prostate removal surgery 5-05 and has the usual problems associated with that but has another side effect his Dr's. wont even discuss. His legs became very weak right after surgery and remain so, After asking other men (3) who have had the same surgery and them experiencing the same symptoms why wont the medical community discuss this? Any ideas? By the way....He had to use the VA Health Care System and his cancer came from service in Vietnam.

Ref. 1 discussed complication of leg weakness after perineal prostatectomy surgery. Your husband most likely had retropubic type of surgery (from pubic area rather than between scrotum and anus). Another possibility is if the cancer spread to the bone where the spinal cord could be affected, then leg weakness could happen (ref. 2). The third reference talked about complication of surgery which it did not sound like your husband had it. It is interesting because I was not aware of the association between Vietnam War and increased incidence of prostate cancer. But I found ref. 3! However, the last reference reminds us that there are other factors related to prostate cancer. People who did not fight and are not fighting in Vietnam or not exposed to agent Orange can also develop prostate cancer. Best of luck and great thanks and appreciation to your husband, you and the family for serving the country.

Has he had his PSA tested recently? Before I received radiation treatment for my prostate I received medication to stop my body from using testosterone. At the same time I was given the medication I was given a bone density test because the medication could also cause osteoporosis. I'd check the side effects for all the medication he's taking. One in six men have had prostate cancer before they die so I'm surprised to hear that the government now links it to service in Vietnam, but I feel all the people who severed in Vietnam deserve all the help from the government that they can possibly provide.

Does anyone know about prostate cancer treatment in Canada

does anyone know about prostate cancer treatment in Canada?
My soon-to-be father-in-law has been diagnosed with prostate cancer and was told that they have new technology for treatment in Canada, where they use laproscopy (i think this is what he is describing). Does anyone know anything about this? Why is it not done here in the states?
What is the recovery process and how sucessful is it really?

I live in Canada and my dad had prostate cancer about 11 years ago. They caught it early enough and he went with radiation treatment. I believe laparoscopic surgery involves removing the prostate which some men choose. My dad had radiation treatment, where the prostate isn't actually removed but the cancer is hit with radiation. You might want to keep checking because I believe laparoscopic treatment is widely available in the US too. Things turned out fine for my dad fortunately and I hope your father in law's prognosis is positive too.

Once prostate cancer has spread to the bones and lymph nodes how long is life expectancy

Once prostate cancer has spread to the bones and lymph nodes how long is life expectancy?
My father in law has had prostate cancer for 7 years and it has moved to the spine. He now has 12 tumors in the spine and it has spread to the lymph nodes. His psa was 60 last month and today it was 84. How bad is this and how long is the life expectancy after the cancer is in the lymph nodes? Chemotherapy is no longer working (hasn't worked for months) and all other treatments have failed.
Now he is going to be given just pain meds. He is 74 and he has diabetes. Its in the lower lymph nodes only right now.

Typically mortality is 100% at this point and life expectancy is very limited (3 months is a fair guess). However I have personally seen people battle cancer and live way past there expected life. One women I had in residency had massive brain tumors and we told her she had six months...that was eight years ago in September. Best of luck to you and your family. mcc_md@yahoo.com for more info/questions.

This is not good. Cancer that has spread like that does not have a very long life expectancy - about 3 months. I wish your father-in-law well.
4 :
im sorry to hear about your father inlaw . my dad past away from prostate cancer ,after it spread to his bones he lived for about nine months i not saying that is the expectancy level for you inlaw but back then they did not have the medical advances like they have now so he might live longer . the pain that my fathe whent through made me happy that he did not suffer long i pray for a break through for this aggressive form of cancer because if it passes from one generatuion to the next your husband and i might be next in line so lets all hope for a medical miricle
5 :
Life expectancy is very short; only a couple of months. My brother died of Lymphoma last year. I'm so sorry about your FIL. Let him know how much you love and appreciate him now. But be careful to make it seem like he has a death sentence hanging over his head, unless he has accepted his impending fate. My brother wouldn't accept that he was terminally ill until he took his last breath. He became very upset if we behaved like he was a dying man. Take care.
6 :
I'm so sorry for you. I'm afraid he's not got to long to live. Make his last days happy, spend some time with him, tell him you love him if you are on good terms with him. He'll appreciate it I'll bet.
7 :
2-3 months isn't too far off. Metastisizing to the lymph nodes usually indicates that it's "end stage" cancer and that's the last stop. The lymph nodes capture and destroy viruses and bacteria so without them, the body loses its ability to fight off infection. At this point, it is a Comfort One situation in which death is imminent and he should be allowed to live the remainder of his life with dignity and with little discomfort, and to pass with as much dignity as possible.

I have always believed that the mainstream medical industry is not interested in finding a cure for cancer because it makes too much profit with its present barbarous methods. Eventually, I came across a detailed report which agreed with my findings, and I have included it in my web page at http://dgwa1.fortunecity.com/body/cancer.html By reading this report, you will also convince yourself that it is best to ignore the mainstream cancer industry, and seek alternative cures. Also you should bear in mind that the medical industry will do anything to protect its profitable position, including disparaging alternative healers or even creating bogus court cases. I believe that cancer is a whole body thing, which in 80 percent of cases manifests itself by producing symptoms in the weaker parts of the body, and therefore appearing localised. It is this treatment of symptoms instead of cause which creates the profitable, yet non-successful approach of mainstream medicine. Some cures are listed on the web page too. It is therefore obvious that a holistic approach is required, based on cleansing, diet, exercise and debugging. CLEANSING The best way of cleansing is to fast. http://www.phifoundation.org/menses.html http://www.healthy.net/scr/article.asp?ID=1996 but if a patient is too weak for that, or does not fancy the idea, then alternative cleanses are available. My husband found out recently that he has Prostate Cancer. we are now using comdoms because the semen comes from that area and the semen vecicle gland. What about oral sex, and not using a comdom before he found out?

Oral Sex if he is performing on you is safe. You can get yourself examined to eliminate all doubts.
2 :
Cancer is a cellular disease and not an infectious one. Check with your doctor but there shouldn't be any concern. Besides if there was a danger of transmission via sex I think your husband's oncologist would have mentioned it to you.
3 :
I agree with iraq51 and can't add any more, but it gives me 2 points! Pete
4 :
No need. You cannot 'catch' cancer from someone.

Do any of you women care about the 27,000 men who died in America last year from prostate cancer

Do any of you women care about the 27,000 men who died in America last year from prostate cancer?
Do any of you care about them?? Do any of you care about all the men who are going to get prostate cancer?? People only seem to care about breast cancer, no one cares about all the men who die from this cancer.

I know! It's terrible. There is limited coverage as well, I think. I'm a woman who briefly volunteered for the Breast Cancer Foundation but all I do is eat muesli that supports prostate cancer. :/
2 :
Wow wtf, that's so harsh, I know a lot of women who have lost husbands, fathers and sons to prostate cancer so don't you dare think you can turn around and make such an ignorant and completely uninformed statement. You absoloute IDIOT.
3 :
First you are ranting. Second of course we care. I am pretty sure that out of the 27000 men that died that they had sisters, mother and daughters. The thing about breast cancer is that it affects more women (40170 die a year, 192000 get invasive breast cancer). The other thing about it is that there haven't been many male celebrities to come out and talk about it. So there isn't a "face" of prostate cancer. But there are so many women celebrities that have come out about breast cancer. Former U.S. Supereme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor Melissa Etheridge Nancy Reagan Kate Jackson(Charlies Angels) Rue McClanahan(Golden Girls) Sheryl Crow Betsy Johnson Kylie Minogue Betty Ford Susanne Sommers Christina Applegate Diahann Carroll

It's the question of pride...It doesn't matter how much care all the person in the world would give to those poor souls who passed away due to prostate cancer if they wouldn't give themselves in to the medical experts to be treated or even just diagnosed in the first place???...In this male dominated world, giving yourself voluntarily to a hospital for check up would mean a decreased machismo...It's something to do with pride buddy...Many prostate cancer victims die because of lack of medical attention, or, waiting for the disease to advance until they could bear it no more before going to the hospital for medication...Too late...Sad but true...
5 :
It is funny how angry women get when you try to take the spotlight on their diseases. Turn on the tv and the only disease you hear about is STD's, Breast cancer and HPV and they still get mad when you ask a question wondering where our notice is.
6 :
Society in general is hostile towards men. We are viewed as disposable, second-class citizens in the eyes of the law, and government spending on women's interest/health issues proves this. And although most medical discoveries are made by men, men seem reluctant to help other men. Thanks to the women's rights movement, you will never see a program- aside from funds set aside for more prisons to house us- that is specifically for men's health/interests. No, such programs would be considered sexist and discriminatory.

Does Metastatic Prostate Cancer go into remission

Does Metastatic Prostate Cancer go into remission?
Even though the VA Doctors say no and no more surgery the idiots sitting in the office says it can go into remission. They over rule everything the Doctor says. Prostate Cancer is a 100% disability but the VA says Metastatic Prostate Cancer is a 60% disability. With this way of thinking do we really need the Government running America's health care?

Here is a website you can refer them to that will agree with your assessment.
2 :
No it doesn’t go into remission. It is possible to get rid of a few bone mets with radiation, but the disease is still present. I don’t know what you mean by the percentage of disability, but if you think these decisions are only made by physicians in the private sector you are wrong. I am not aware of anyone wanting to get rid of insurance companies or HMOs or are you saying we should get rid of Medicare?

My husband has had skin cancer twice and also prostate cancer

My husband has had skin cancer twice and also prostate cancer?
Is he more likely to get another kind of cancer, or is it all random? Both skin cancers were on his face, and he had his prostate removed. He's 65, and in excellent shape. Thank you.

LadyLynn - The simple answer is NO, BUT he is more likely to get one or more skin cancers of the type he just had. Most likely to repeat is the relatively benign basal cell cancer (carcinoma) which usually occurs on the sun-exposed skin of the head, such as the face and ears. He is not more likely to get another type of cancer internally. It would be good for him to make a visit to his dermatologist once a year to have a skin check for any new lesions,

Contemplating if I should get screened for prostate cancer

Contemplating if I should get screened for prostate cancer?
My uncle keeps harassing me to get a prostate cancer screening but I’m scared as SH#T both my father and older brother died of prostate cancer we very much are aware the gene runs in the family. So should I just go and get screened even though I’m only 18 years old?

It is always better to be safe then sorry. If they find something at your age a cure is available:not after you have been walking around with symptoms for twenty years already:then you are way to late. So get it done Colors
2 :
i would DEFINATLY get screened. what is there to lose? just do it.
3 :
Listen to your uncle. He is concerned - and you should be, too.
4 :
You should definitely get screened. I know a friend who had cancer but beat it after the 5 years of it being malignant. If you act now, the same can happen for you! If you have any questions on it, check out this website it has a lot of information that I passed on to my son because it runs in our genes too.

Anyone know how deadly cancer of the prostate is

Anyone know how deadly cancer of the prostate is?
My older brother was diagnosed last week with prostate cancer. He has it on both sides. The doctors told him on a scale from 0 to 10 he is a 7. I have been worried ever since he was told. I have heard that its not that deadly compared to other forms of cancer. I hope not anyway. Thanks for any and all help on this.

Well, you really should be asking your brother what the doctor thinks and what they are going to do about it. When it's caught early, it's very treatable. Even at a later stage, it can be treated, but there will be more complications if it has metastized. Those are the things you really need to find out. Good luck, thinking good thoughts for your your brother and your family!

Besides Cancer, What Are The Causes of an Enlarged Prostate?
Hello Everyone, If your doctor has determined that you do NOT have prostate cancer, but have a large prostate, what causes this to happen in the first place? I am aware that frequent urination is a main sign of an enlarged prostate, but what causes the prostate to grow in the first place? Jeff

Why is there so much fundraising for Breast Cancer ? But not for Prostate Cancer

Why is there so much fundraising for Breast Cancer ? But not for Prostate Cancer ?
I see alot of charity and publicity about Breast Cancer. I even bought a book of stamps with proceeds going to Breast Cancer research. But what about men ? Men are just as likely to get Prostate Cancer and much more likely to die from prostate cancer. Because men rarely get checkups for it.... until it's too late. For Women, early detection is key to fighting Breast Cancer. Same goes for Men.
But there has been so little publicity for Men to get examined. Why the difference of the sexes ?
Other - Health - 3 Answers

1 :
Breast cancer is much more publicized and seen, to the public, as much a more "curable" condition (I know it is the same in early detection, but not so with later detection). "Marketing" has everything to do with this because most people have a family member, have had or personally know of somebody with or who has died/recovered from breast cancer. Probably not the case with prostate cancer which usually affects men >50, and rarely <50, where breast cancer is seen hitting women of all ages, although most common >50)
2 :
Because breast cancer is a very fast growing type of cancer and prostate cancer is the slowest growing cancer known. http://www.prostatecancerfoundation.org/site/c.itIWK2OSG/b.47285/k.CCF1/Detection__Screening.htm
3 :
Here's my guess. Women are more likely to organize fundraisers, do volunteer work, and push for charitable causes. Not to say that many men don't do this too but the numbers of women far outweigh the men. Also, prostate cancer was historically a hush, hush subject because of it's "below the belt" nature. Jump on the coat tails of successful fundraising organizations like Relay for Life, Race for the Cure, and so on. Ask local Breast Cancer organizations to partner with one for prostate cancer and work jointly in your fundraising efforts. It's a good way to draw attention to your cause from like minded people and you won't have to reinvent the wheel. For more fundraising ideas for your cause, visit http://www.fundraiserhelp.com/charity-events.htm Appeal to the male population by hosting a golf tournament or casino night gala. If you do your event in conjunction with a breast cancer organization, stir up some friendly competition with a Boobs vs. Butts fundraiser.

The opposite is probably closer to the truth. They used to say that you would go blind, too.... gees.

not true.
4 :
No, of course not!
5 :
It's actually been shown in some studies to reduce the risk of prostate cancer. As long as you don't over do it, there have been zero proven negative side affects.
6 :
Masturbation does NOT cause prostate cancer -- actually, it tends to reduce the chances of getting it. Masturbation has zero negative side affects.
7 :
If that was true, I would have died a long time ago. I'm 55 and I've been masturbating since I was 14. When I was younger I masturbated 3 or 4 times a day.
8 :
no. It says It cannot cause it.

Can Prostate cancer come back after 17 years

Can Prostate cancer come back after 17 years?
My father was diagnosed with prostate cancer in '91 and had a radical prostate removal and some radiation treatment. Now after all that time his PSA levels are starting to go up and he has some enlarged lymph nodes around his kidneys.
I've never heard of this type of cancer coming back after so long.

anyone who has ever had any kind of cancer is at risk for recurring cancer, and it doesn't have to be the same cancer or in the same place. Having it once, apparently makes you prone to having it again.
2 :
Yes, it can come back. It happened to my husband.
3 :
it's possible, hope he is getting checked out even if just to put his mind at rest

What stage is vomiting with prostate cancer

what stage is vomiting with prostate cancer?
My grandfather has prostate cancer and he has been vomiting the last couple of days. Does it mean it's getting worse? What stage would that be? Yes he has been getting check ups. He goes again this week to two different doctors. He is also very weak. He has not done chemo He is also sleeping a lot and he never used to. He has been diagnosed with it about two years ago.

Sounds like more than just prostate, maybe spreading. I never had nausea, even though it spread into my bladder. Has he had regular checkups?
2 :
If your Grandfather is on chemo treatments, that may be what is causing his vomitting. All the best to him.
3 :
Here are some advice to your grandfather and how he deal with prostate cancer. Maintaining good nutrition for Prostate Cancer is essential to help combating the side-effects of prostate cancer treatment. This can give you more energy and you will probably also feel better. • Maintain a Basic Calorie Intake - Maintain the basic calorie needs of your body while dealing with prostate cancer is important. If you suffer from prostate cancer and you maintain a stable weight, then the estimated calorie intake is possibly about fifteen calories per pound of weight. If you are losing weight, then you might add five hundred calories every day. For example, if a person weighs 160 pounds, then the caloric intake of the person should be 2,260 calories each day to maintain a stable weight. • Take Protein Each Day to Tackle Prostate Cancer - Proteins help the body in repairing and rebuilding damaged body tissue by prostate cancer. An estimated protein intake might be 0.5 to 0.6 grams for every pound of body weight. For example, a person weighing one hundred and fifty pounds requires around seventy-five to ninety grams of protein intake per day. Foods that are rich in proteins are dairy products, meat, eggs, fish and legumes - especially beans. 8 oz of milk - 8 grams of protein. One ounce of fish, meat or poultry - 7 grams of protein • Drink Enough Fluids - Drink around eight cups of fluids each day. This is the best way of preventing dehydration. Fluids can be water, milk, juice, milkshakes, gelatine, broths and other beverages. Avoid fluids that contain caffeine or excess sugar. However, if prostate cancer treatment's side effect is diarrhoea and vomiting, then you will need to consume extra fluids. • Enough Vitamins- If your food is not vitamin-rich, then you may need to take vitamin supplements. Natural sources of vitamins include nuts, olive oil, seeds, avocado oil, non-fat milk, peas and wheat germ. • Foods That Are Rich in Lycopene and Quercetin - These plant pigments promote health and may have cancer-fighting abilities. Foods that are rich in lycopene are watermelons, papaya, red grapefruit, red berries and tomatoes. Quercetin has anti-inflammatory and antihistamine properties that may be beneficial in reducing the pain of the inflamed prostate. Foods that are rich in quercetin are green and black tea, apples, onions, red wine, citrus fruits, raspberries, red grapes, broccoli, citrus fruits, cherries and leafy green vegetables. you can get a good advice here: http://www.ehealth4you.com

Can prostate cancer spread after been diagnose, before treatment

Can prostate cancer spread after been diagnose, before treatment?
My husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer in April, up to today he have not be given the treatment needed. How long it takes for prostate cancer to spread?
Cancer - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
It usually doesnt spread very fast but it does depend on the cancer. Most prostate cancer spreads slow but a small percentage of it spreads rapidly... There is a harmon shot called Lupron that he can get that will stop the growth for a few months... Lupron will generally put the cancer on hold for up to 8-10 years if you get a shot every 4 months or so.. However it does not destroy the cancer ..just sort of puts it on hold for a while.. I had prostate cancer in 2005 and had Proton Radiation treatments at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linda California. I think Proton Radiation is the very best treatment for prostate cancer available today.. It has a 90% cure rate and little to no side effects.. I was not sick one single day during or after treatments... and have no side effects from the treatments.. My PSA is now .13 (Point one three) and its like I never had cancer.. every thing works just like always...Medicare and most insurance covers Proton Radiation..There is a website called Proton Bob that gives alot of information about prostate cancer and Proton Radiation... If you go to the website be sure and read the Patient Testimonial section... by the men who have had proton radiation.. any one who has ever had it is totally sold on it..and why not a 90% cure rate and no side effects.. There is also a book recently out by Robert J. Marckini a prostate cancer survivor that tellls all about prostate cancer and then tells about all of the available treatment options today and out lines all of the pros and cons and side effects of each treatment... Any one with Prostate Cancer or prostate problems should read the book.. It is available at Barnes and Nobles and other book stores and can also be purchased on line at the Proton Bob website..The name of the book is YOU CAN BEAT PROSTATE CANCER. I dont know if you have insurance or not.. but the lupron shots cost about $1,200.00 to $1,500.00 hundred each.. and are needed about every four months. However, as I said earlier, the lupron shots are not a cure.. its like a band aid..that puts a hold on the cancer for a while..If you have any questions about my experience with prostate cancer or Proton Radiation, please feel free to email me here on yahoo answers.. hope this helps some...Also the Proton Radiation is available in 4-5 places in the US .. Loma Linda California, M. D. Anderson in Houston, Texas.. Florida, Indiania, and Maryland I think.. Proton Bob website tells where it is available.. Loma Linda pioneered it about 17 years ago and due to their great success other hospitals are starting to offer it.. some doctors are slow to recommend it.. dont know about it, think is experimental or its simply a money thing with them.. if they send you else where they dont make any money from treating you..sad but true...
2 :
it can but not that fast
