I have just done 40 radiations for prostate cancer and believe it is gone. Some people do not bother to get treated and it grows slow enough to not be their demise. Colon cancer is more vicious and more fatal .A lot depends when it is detected. Statistics say 80% of all men will have prostate cancer by age 80. Your grandpa should have a PSA blood test for prostate cancer and a colonoscopy for colon cancer

depends on the gleason stage and how spread it is for prostate cancer. Lots of people live many years with prostate cancer, some are cured depending on what treatments they qualify for. Colon cancer is worse, but if it can be removed by surgery, you can get cured. If surgery can't get to it, and it is spread, the new drug AVASTIN is really good to keep people from getting spread of cancer of the colon

This depends on a lot of factors. Prostate is one of the slowest growing and spreading cancers, so much so that when someone in their 80's is diagnosed the treatment option is often to do nothing as something else will get them long before the prostate cancer. Without treatment 10 years is not uncommon. With treatment, he could make it to his 100th birthday.
