How does prostate cancer occur

How does prostate cancer occur ?
Is it true that a guy whom does not have sex for a long period of time would develop prostate cancer ?

1 :
not necessarily, but a guy that masturbates more than 5 times a week reduces his chances of prostate cancer.
2 :
If we knew how prostate cancer occurs then we would probably already have the cure for cancer. Sex has nothing to do with cancer of the prostate. Genetics, environmental factors, etc., Don't believe all the old wives tales beause if you do then you would be growing hair in the palms of your hand.

Why is more money being spent Prevention/Detection of Breast Cancer than there is on Prostate Cancer

Why is more money being spent Prevention/Detection of Breast Cancer than there is on Prostate Cancer?
Twelve times as many Males die each year of Prostate Cancer complications that Females do of Breast Cancer complications. Money spent on the prevention/detection/cure of Breast cancer is four times the money spent on the prevention/detection/cure of Prostate Cancer? What is the reason for this?

more men die because they wait to long to see a doctor .... women are more in control of their healthcare and there is a need to catch up ....in the past everything was dedicated to the men...even heart disease only took in the male perspective...we were all deemed alike..now they are realizing that symptoms for a heart attack differ on women...no shearing or shooting pains down the left arm like men ....and they are also just realizing that MEN CAN GET BREAST CANCER ALSO
2 :
Dude...donot know where you got your info..but you are "dead" wrong...(pardon the pun) Prostrate cancer in 89 per cent of diagnosed cases to age of 70 are 99 per cent correctible...what the f***?
3 :
The answer is simple. We women have a better lobby and, while it is little known, control most of the spending in this country. Indeed many more males die from complications of Prostate cancer than females do of Breast cancer. The cure for Prostate cancer involves rather drastic surgery that most males would rather not undertake. Perhaps in 100 years a less drastic cure for both types of cancer will be discovered and in use.

Hi does anyone know the first signs of prostate cancer

Hi does anyone know the first signs of prostate cancer?
I KNOW SOME ONE CLOSE TO ME WHO SAYS HE HAS A BALL LIKE GROWTH DIRECTLY UNDER HIS TESTICLES BUT HE'S SCARED TO GO TO THE HOSPITIAL FOR FEAR OF THE WORST. I ASKED HIM IF HE THINKS IT'S SOMETHING SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED AN HE SAYS HE'S POSITIVE IT'S NOTHING SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED. IF ANYONE KNOWS THE FIRST SIGNS OF PROSTATE CANCER OR THE SYMPTOMS PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

This is the first sign. He should visit the doctor because if its not treated early it will become deadly
2 :
He needs to take a PSA blood test. That should tell him if it's cancer or not. PSA stands for "prostate specific antigen" which shows up in the bloodstream of prostate cancer victims.
3 :
Any growth that's not normal should be checked out by a physician. If he lets it go too long, it could become very serious. The sooner he gets it checked the better. I know people who've had problems with growths down there and they got it fixed and were better a lot quicker too. You'd be a true friend to advise him to see the doc ASAP!
4 :
WELL FIRST IF HE HAS PROBLEMS URINATING HE MUST GO TO DOC ASK HIM HOW LONG DOES HE WANT TO LIVE! IF HE THINKS THATS FUNNY SAY GOOD BYE SHOW HIM YOU CARE- SOME OF THEM NEED A PUSH MEN ARE LIKE KIDS BRING THE DOC TO HIM ON A HOUSE CALL IF HE GETS MAD HE DONT CARE ABOUT ANYTHING
5 :
Blood in the urine is the most prevalent. If this is the case do not wait much longer as the longer you wait the worse your chances are to recover from such an illness. Please make him go get a check-up! Even if he gets mad-who cares, at least he goes. Good Luck.
6 :
Troube starting urinating, urinating more frequently than usual, feeling that you didn't release all the urine, pain on urination or ejaculation, lower back pain, pain in the legs, in the sxrotum area, perineum area. Better check this website ASAP www.oncolink.com
7 :
It could be a hydro seal. Is it painless?, more squishy than a testicle, just a bit smaller? Go to the Urologist but I bet it's a hydro seal and that is nothing to worry about. Prostate cancer will involve an enlarged prostate which makes it very difficult to urinate. Give me best answer and go to the doctor.
8 :
Definately needs to go for a PSA test and then possibly a biopsy. Someone very dear to me was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer on both sides and he had no symptoms at all. They had been watching his PSA's for about a year and decided to do a biopsy. He still has no symptoms but opted for surgery because it is a silent killer.
9 :
There are no signs, or symptoms regarding Prostate Cancer. Go for a simple blood test. The doctor will give you a quick test to check for this. I know this as I have Prostate Cancer.

Is there an epidemic of prostate cancer? It seems like everybody's getting it but living with it treated early

Is there an epidemic of prostate cancer? It seems like everybody's getting it but living with it treated early?
One out of 5 men have prostate cancer, staggering numbers. But it seems that as long as it's caught early and treated right away you go right on with your life. Personal experiences? The word I should have used is proliferation instead of epidemic.

Cancer can not be an epidemic as it is not infectious for people to catch it. I think what you mean is that it seems more prevalent in the news etc. This is due to peoples bad diets and not following the guidelines to prevent cancers, ie good diet healthy regime, not smoking etc. As males we are more likely to get cancers, this is in our genes and especially prostate (as women dont have them).
2 :
You might take another look at the statistic that you quote. Maybe one man in five will get it in his lifetime, but one in five do not have it right now. The National Cancer Institute sponsors a lecture series at NIH annually that talks about cancers and research and what to do in the clinical setting based on current research findings. They call the series TRACO which stands for something like Translational Research for Clinical Oncology. The lectures are scientific, but also can be understood with a little effort and always discuss treatments. You will find them at the site below. It is necessary to follow the links. And, you will find that the presenters have the view that more is discovered because of earlier tests. It may not be that more men are getting it just now. Also, they present the idea that there are aggressive forms and relatively slow growing forms and that the aggressive forms will have serious negative consequences. The talk this year was given recently and dealt with the prostate cancers that do not respond well to chemical castration. Last year's talk is more general. Hope you can benefit by these videos.

There's no epidemic. Men has been getting diagnosed with prostate cancer for years. If it seems epidemic to you, keep in mind that due to advances in health care and health awareness, people are living longer then ever before. Our older population outnumbers the younger one. The exact cause of prostate cancer is not yet clearly understood but some contributing factors are diet, age, heredity, genetics and testosterone. It's one of the most common cancers in men and is one of the most treatable cancers if caught early. My first personal experience with prostate cancer was my own father. He ignored the early symptoms, he ignored the later symptoms, he acted too late, it metastasized and he died. End of story.

Human have many lymph nodes in our body, include in the area around prostate. Lymph node enlargement can be early sign of cancer, but also can be sign of infection. No one here can tell you if it is cancer or not. Your father's doctor will have to perform biopsy to diagnosed your father. Good luck.

I'm sure it puts a big strain on it like any other cancer or illness. Check out the links below for more info.

Real quick reply...I've been researching this for Ovarian Cancer, however a lot of studies show it's positive effect on prostate cancer. The Maitake D-Fraction (check out the 'griffin pro' version at www.maitake.com) shows it can cause cell death in the prostate cancer cells. Undergoing clinical trials and studies here, but has been used for years in asia. Also D-fraction can boost the immune system (especially if taking chemo) to activate NK killer cells, T-cells, white blood cells, etc. to help with the immune systems attack on cancer cells in general.

Is it possible to younger age to have a prostate cancer

is it possible to younger age to have a prostate cancer?
im 20 yrs old and im experiencing a burning sensation when i urinate. i think this is a symptom of a prostate cancer
Cancer - 12 Answers

probably not cancer, but an infection
2 :
Go to the doctor, just to be safe. It is highly unlikely, but possible. My friend's ex-boyfriend had it in his late teens. Good luck.
3 :
more like an std or kidney infection, though a baby can be born with any kind of cancer, you need to see a doctor,
4 :
anything is possible
5 :
yes it is,believe or not 20 -35 year olds get prostate cancer quite often,it's not an older persons problem but you may just have a U.T.I.......try some penicillin but go to a doctor
6 :
YOU NEED TO SEE A SPECIALIST PROSTATE IN REAL IT DOESN'T HAVE AGE IS LIKE ANY CANCER YOU CAN FIND CANCER EVEN IN KIDS Cancer don't makes exceptions!!!!!
7 :
it is possible , everybody who has prostate can have prostate cancer but urine problems can be caused by urethra, urin bladder...sympthoms of cancer are different
8 :
It sounds more like a urinary tract infection to me. And it won't go away by itself. You have to get antibiotics from your doctor, and be sure to take them all, even though you feel better. If prostate cancer runs in your family, you might want to have it checked out. But 20 yrs old sounds very young. Most men don't start getting symptoms till well after 50. The main symptom is not being to empty your bladder, and having a very weak stream.
9 :
It's theoretically possible but, extremely unlikely. I did some research on youngest diagnosed prostate cancer case. I found one at 27 years of age. So, I doubt you have it. More likely a urinary tract infection. I doubt they'd do a PSA test for someone that young. More likely a DRE (digital rectal exam..... yes, it is exact as it sounds).
10 :
You're never to young for cancer. My advice is go see a urologist and have your PSA reading done. PSA testing saves lives!
11 :
only a doctor can tell you for sure

Is it permisable or wise to donate blood while your are being treated for prostate cancer

Is it permisable or wise to donate blood while your are being treated for prostate cancer?
I have prostate cancer and my treatment is: Hormone Therapy and External Beam Radiation. Is my blood OK to use for what ever purposes blood banks use it? I can't help any other way at the moment and wish to continue helping others. Prior to my cancer I would do volunteer work. Now I am too tired to do the physical work I used to do. Even driving my car has been too much. Thank you everyone, it was so silly of me to think I could donate.

1 :
No you can't because of your medication and treatment.
2 :
No you shouldn't be giving blood. Take it easy a while and concentrate on your own healing. You best serve others when you are ina better position to do so.
3 :
After radiation for breast cancer, my local blood bank permanently deferred me from giving blood. I don't know if it was because of the cancer or the radiation, but they just aren't interested in my O- anymore. Sorry.
4 :
Usually the criteria for donating blood is that the donar should be fit and healthy. As you are having treatment for cancer i would not think that it would be advisable at present .You have been helping others in the past by doing voluntary work and now you need to look after yourself. When you are well again i am sure there is lots of ways you can still help others and lead a full filling life.Good luck with your treatment.
5 :
Blood banks must follow Food & Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines. Contact your area blood bank with this question. Regarding the use of donated blood: By FDA regulations, if you are paid to donate plasma (this process is called plasmapheresis), this plasma is not transfused into human beings. The companies you donate to will sell the plasma to research companies and drug manufacturers. You do not mention how long you have been receiving your radiation therapy. Your oncologist should be able to instruct you regarding fatigue--what causes it, how long it will last, what can be done to address it so you may become active again. You are a very unselfish, empathetic person to be still thinking of others in your own times of hardship--bless you. Please talk to your oncologist. I hope your cancer is treated successfully!
6 :
It is not ok to donate because of the treatments you are having. Your blood counts are probably below normal, probably anemic. On that count alone you won't be able to donate.
7 :
Bless you for wanting to help, Arthur, but blood donation isn't the way to do it. I had cancer and chemo (no radiation) and was told I couldn't donate blood any more (ever) because of the cancer. It's a tricky disease and you can never be positive there aren't a few cancer cells in your blood. Radiation is notorious for making you tired. I'm sure your doc is checking your blood regularly....white cells and red cells and such. There are meds you can try if they get too low. I used to drink the Ensure protein drinks every day to help with nutrition when I was too tired to cook. I think this is a time when you can concentrate on yourself and getting better. The faster you get better, the faster you can get back to volunteering!
8 :
The Red Cross used to call me all the time to donate because I am B+, which is rare. However, when I told them that I was being treated for breast cancer, they stopped calling. They told me 5-7 years before I can donate again. Cancer cells can pass through the blood.
