When should men begin prostate cancer screenings

When should men begin prostate cancer screenings?
My husband's almost 26 and I'm pretty sure he's never had one. Should I suggest it at this point?

After puberty.
2 :
30s or 40s i think. earlier if it runs in your family.
3 :
depending on your family its always ok to be early dont worry if you want to get checked around early 30's
4 :
35 to 40 if there is a family history. Otherwise most doctors and insurance hav eyou wait until 50. If you're on HRT, then you have to get the blood tests every 3 months.
5 :
Age 45-50 once a year unless you're having problems relating to the prostate like an enlarged prostate causing difficulty when urinating or burning when urinating which could be an infection. If anyone in your family has had prostate cancer you might want to start earlier getting a PSA screening. The digital exam by a doctor can only feel 1/3 of the prostate so it's not very reliable.

In oral sex, is prostate cancer with seed implants dangerous

In oral sex, is prostate cancer with seed implants dangerous?
My mate is 64 and has had the seed implants for over 10 years. When we have oral sex, we want to know if his semen is dangerous to my health? The cancer semen or the seed implants. Thank you

Why not ask your doctor. I would believe him/her over us Yahoos.
2 :
Cancer semen is the second leading cause of death to uneducated women over the age of 50.
3 :
No, the seeds are now inactive (no radiation left in them) and if he has survived 10 years and his PSA is less than 0.05 or "undetectable", he is considered "cured".
4 :
No.. and I hope my wife is like you 35 years.
5 :
I am 62 and had seed implants 15 months ago. The implants lose half their radiation every 60 days. Within 2 or 3 years the seeds give off virtually no radiation. In addition there is even less leakage into his semen. My wife and I do have oral sex with no health issues that we can see. I think there is nothing to worry about. He no longer has cancer. There is no cancer in his semen. Is he still checking his PSA?

Is it possible to have prostate cancer and no prostate

Is it possible to have prostate cancer and no prostate?!?!?
My Father had his prostate removed last february do to cancer but his numbers are going higher and higher!! drs. are puzzled all tests show nothing ...is it possible to still have prostate cancer and no prostate? could they have left some in there? so confused please help if you can.

Sometimes the prostate has been know to grow back. Another thought may be that the prostate cancer may have already spread somewhere else in his body, so the same cells that caused his cancer in the first place would now be located somewhere else causing his "numbers" to rise. I believe there are body scans that can be done to look for areas of abnormal tissue growth.
2 :
If his PSA after 2 years is not less than .2, then some of the cancer cells escaped before or during the operation and are in the system. It may be undetectable in the body for years. His doctors have probably done a bone scan. This is the most important test.
3 :
When the prostate is removed during radical prostatectomy it does not grow back. I had surgery in October for prostate cancer. "When the PSA rises after radical prostatectomy the relevant question is whether there is a local recurrence of the prostate cancer ( return of the cancer to the area where it was first identified) or a distant disease (metastatic disease). Overall, about 30% of men with detectable PSA levels after radical prostatectomy have local recurrences, whereas about 70% are anticipated to have distant disease alone or distant disease combined with local disease. Several options are available, including watchful waiting, external beam radiation therapy, and hormone therapy." "when the PSA is increasing after definitive therapy, the physician may want to re-stage the patient to determine where the cancer is. It is helpful in the decision making to determine whether the cancer is confined to the area where that prostate was, or in the pelvis, or whether it has spread outside of the prostate area, for example to the bones, or lymph nodes higher up in the abdomen. Methods used in this staging process may be a bone scan, a ProstaScint scan, and/or a CT scan of the abdomen and the pelvis." There is still hope of a cure with recurrent prostate cancer and with agressive treament early on, there is a better chance of effectively treating the cancer that has remained. Information is the best weapon to fight this disease, please take comfort in the fact that prostate cancer is a curable disease and there are many options for treatment, even when one treatment has failed. My prayers go to you and your family at this difficult time.

What are some ways to make prostate cancer more well-known, and raise money for it

What are some ways to make prostate cancer more well-known, and raise money for it?
I know this doesn't really belong in Gender & Women's studies, but the folks here seem to be much smarter than in the Health section, which is the suggested category. Sigy: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/low/health/663688.stm

Tell Oprah.
2 :
It is well known- but getting many men to the doctor for the physical and blood tests required is very hard. Caught early it has one of the best survival rates. It has a lot of financial support and medical research behind it already.
3 :
It seems to me it is pretty well known, and just for the treatments for it the success rate is pretty darn good. My father has it, and is in remission. He did not do the seed implants but just had it removed to be on the safe side, and is recovering very well. I did not realize it was not well known. Maybe because my father has it, it seemed the information is out there just going by how its treated.
4 :
The tv ads for breast cancer awareness show breasts. The ads for colon cancer show buttcheeks. Maybe we should get some ads with penises to really get peoples attention.
5 :
How about starting your own website to raise awareness? many non-profits are dot-org, so maybe you could start something like that. Testimonials, statistics, and links to doctors that can help - if you know people who know those who have suffered or been affected, get in touch with them to see if they can help. I would think there would also be support groups for this kind of thing, or least there is something else you could start.
6 :
Lister .. don't worry qbout your question "belonging" here it is a totally legitimate good question! I think that probably public awareness of prostate cancer in the US can be raised with talks on college campuses and with shows on PBS. I don't know how much research money is in cancer research in general but I'm sure that more money can't hurt. You may also want to look at the cancer research that is relevant to more than one type of cancer and the research into treating specific types of cancers. For example maybe some things that we discover about some female cancers can be applied to our knowledge of prostrate canser and vice versa. I'm very sure that this kind of thing is being done now but again..it doesn't hurt to encourage more of this!
7 :
Prostate and Breast cancer are two of the most well known cancers. We have very sophisticated testing and treatment for both. Both cancers are highly detectable and treatable. Neither is a death sentence. It is the lesser known cancers that need to be publicized, and more money put towards researching them. Liver/pancreatic cancer, melanoma, and lymphoma are a few that most people don't know much about. Liver/pancreatic cancer and melanoma are some of the deadliest cancers in people, which is why more research needs to be done.
8 :
To get a verity of answers try putting it in both sections. Take note how the breast cancer research fund raisers do it. Get a gimmick (maybe a blue ribbon instead of pink) and attach it to everything and charge more for that object. Take the profits and donate it to the cause. That will bring the awareness and the funds up.
9 :
Women, if you husband or loved one is over the age 50, set up an exam for them. Do not leave it up to men to do it, we will rarely volunteer to go to the doctors. The hardest thing I have ever had to face, was coming home from the oncologist and seeing my 7 yr old son, after being told I have a 64% five year survivability rate. Mentally I have accepted it, but physically the treatments take there toll. I have melanoma and it is very unpredictable.
10 :
This 1) is a place to work for and donate to and 2) shows where men are neglected by our tax dollars. http://www.fightprostatecancer.org/site/DocServer/Prostate_Cancer_Statistics-Funding_for_a_Cure.pdf?docID=203 Of course, this is only federal monies... but the large organizations and commercials neglect this issue as well. But, of course, it's primarily a white man's disease... various ethnicity's are vulnerable but Caucasian men get it nearly 10 times more.

Does prostate cancer stop semen production

Does prostate cancer stop semen production?
My man friend had the seed inplant of radiation for cancer. It worked. He is cured. He say he can no longer produce semen. Is this true? He said he got shots to delete testosterone.

it might but chances are that it doesnt, because sperm is produced in the gonads by testosterone so it actually has very little to do with the prostate, now you do need a healthy prostate in order to ejaculate and get erect enough

You sound like anxiety may be your primary problem rather than the surgery. Take a week off your rigorous scheme, chill out, and watch some naughty movies instead...
