Can prostate cancer spread after been diagnose, before treatment?
My husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer in April, up to today he have not be given the treatment needed. How long it takes for prostate cancer to spread?

It usually doesnt spread very fast but it does depend on the cancer. Most prostate cancer spreads slow but a small percentage of it spreads rapidly... There is a harmon shot called Lupron that he can get that will stop the growth for a few months... Lupron will generally put the cancer on hold for up to 8-10 years if you get a shot every 4 months or so.. However it does not destroy the cancer ..just sort of puts it on hold for a while.. I had prostate cancer in 2005 and had Proton Radiation treatments at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linda California. I think Proton Radiation is the very best treatment for prostate cancer available today.. It has a 90% cure rate and little to no side effects.. I was not sick one single day during or after treatments... and have no side effects from the treatments.. My PSA is now .13 (Point one three) and its like I never had cancer.. every thing works just like always...Medicare and most insurance covers Proton Radiation..There is a website called Proton Bob that gives alot of information about prostate cancer and Proton Radiation... If you go to the website be sure and read the Patient Testimonial section... by the men who have had proton radiation.. any one who has ever had it is totally sold on it..and why not a 90% cure rate and no side effects.. There is also a book recently out by Robert J. Marckini a prostate cancer survivor that tellls all about prostate cancer and then tells about all of the available treatment options today and out lines all of the pros and cons and side effects of each treatment... Any one with Prostate Cancer or prostate problems should read the book.. It is available at Barnes and Nobles and other book stores and can also be purchased on line at the Proton Bob website..The name of the book is YOU CAN BEAT PROSTATE CANCER. I dont know if you have insurance or not.. but the lupron shots cost about $1,200.00 to $1,500.00 hundred each.. and are needed about every four months. No, I do not think they will. I had prostate cancer and had proton radiation .. It has no side effects and a 90% cure rate.. I am fine now... It was like I was never sick.. No, there is no hard proof that they can cure cancer. I'd strong recommend sticking to mainstream treatments. If you'd like to take Herbal / Ayurvedic treatments, I'd suggest doing it only as a complement to mainstream treatments. My husband had prostate cancer can we still have a baby?
I have been trying to concieve since September We recently found out that my husband had prostate cancer they said he had it for 6 to 8 months before it was detected . He got the surgery and everything looks good . I am wondering if this has affected his sperm .

Of course.... The prostate cancer may affect the transmission of sperm from the testes to the urethral meatus but the production of sperm itself won't

Prostate cancer doesn't usually affect fertility however, the treatment sometimes can. If it was just surgery, he should be okay. If you're having trouble conceiving, make an appointment with a Urologist to get a work up for fertility. If he comes back normal, make an appointment for yourself to get checked out.

If he has back pain due to prostate cancer he likely has bone mets and yes it is very painful. Radiation often takes care of it and he would not need to take pain kills for long.

1) The causes are a difficult one to answer. Like many cancers, the causes are not always totally clear. However, the prostate is part of the male reproduction system and in fact is a gland situated just in front of the bladder, surrounding the urethra, so hormones may play a part. 2) Symptoms include enlargement of the Prostate gland and along with this, difficulty in passing water. This is generally the first sign that anything is wrong. The man has problems going to the loo and emptying the bladder, so much so that he feels he has to pass urine often especially at night and yet when he gets to the loo, he has problems getting starting. 3) The prostate is part of the reproductive system in that it controls the release of a fluid, mixed with the semen, during ejaculation. The enlargement itself doesn't cause the problems it is the treatment that does. However, most men with prostate cancer are over 60 and so reproduction is not such a major issue. 4) Treatment depends on the severity of the disease and how it has progressed. i) Watchful waiting - to see how the situation pans out, the man is careful kept a check on until they feel treatment is needed. ii) Surgery - To completely remove the Prostate, done when the patient is younger and they wish to prolong life beyond 10 or so years. iii) Hormone treatment - Oestrogen is given to the man to throw the cancer into reverse. The prostate cancer 'feeds' on testosterone, remove this and it becomes dormant. Generally used when metastases are already present. This 'buys' the patient time. Some 10 years or more is used to good effect. The man becomes impotent.

I had Prostate cancer in 2005. The only symptom I had was a dull pain in my prostate area.The effects on the reproductive system is casued by the treatments taken. The only treatment that I know of that does not effect the reproduction system is Proton Radiation.. That is the treatment I had... Personally I think it is the very best treatment available today for prostate cancer... Proton Radiation is different from other radiation treatments in that it has little to no side effects and as good if not better cure rate than other treatments . the cure rate is about 90% I had Proton Radiation at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linda California.. It is available at 4-5 other locations in the US and several more facilities are being built currently. It was considered experimental for several years, but Loma Linda started doing it 17 years ago and have had such great success that several other hospitals just recently started offering it... There is a website called Proton Bob gives information about prostate cancer(Bob stands for Brotherhood of the Balloon.has to do with the treatments). It is maintained by former Proton Radiation patients I think.. anyway if you check it be sure and read the Testimonial Section ... of former proton patients... any one who has had Proton Radiation is totally sold on it.. Also there is a book that came out just recently written by a Prostate cancer survivor called YOU CAN BEAT PROSTATE CANCER.. It was written by Robert J. Can someone provide me links about government funding for breast cancer as opposed to prostate cancer?
I would like to know the differences between the funding from the federal government (especially during the very beginning of both movements) to these charities. I am quite sure that breast cancer research has always been given much higher funding from the federal government but I am curious as to whether or not the unequal funding for breast cancer research foundations (in comparison to prostate cancer foundations) is what directly caused the mass awareness of breast cancer and the general neglect of prostate cancer.

Suggest that you read the history of breast cancer awareness and try to understand the social ramifications that fueled the priority for breast cancer research . . it is obvious you are too young to remember the events that led up to the 'war on cancer declared in 1971' and the womens liberation movement during that time period.

No one here is going to do research for you. If it is that important to you, you will do it. No government started the â€œmass awareness of breast cancerâ€ that was done by everyday men and women who were sick and tired of people, mostly women, who were dying of the disease. How do you figure there has been a general neglect of prostate cancer? The use of PSA for early detection was started in the 1990s. The use of robots to do prostatectomies began in the last 10 years. A vaccine for advanced prostate cancer was approved by the FDA this year. Do you really believe every cancer should be funded equally? Do you believe only women die from breast cancer?

Depending on how advanced it is, it is usually very easy to cure. I can talk from experience, My dad had prostate cancer just a few months ago. Thanks to God he is now healed and through surgery, the cancer was removed. My dad's cancer was very aggressive, it was an 8. and that's VERY aggressive, it could have been a matter of days before the cancer exploded and infiltrated the rest of his body. Surgery is the way to go. It is the best chance because then it is done and over with. Your friend's docter might give him the choice of using magnetic balls that go into your body and kill the cancer. but with that treatment, there is no gaurantee that the balls will kill ALL the cancer. There is a very high chance that prostate cancer can be cured. DEPENDING ON HOW EARLY YOUR FRIEND'S CANCER WAS FOUND, it may or may not be easy to cure. If it's found very late, then it really depends on a lot of things like how aggessive it is. If it was found very early, then there is almost a 100% chance it will be cured. Distant refers to spreading beyond the prostate and the lymph nodes in the area to distant areas such as the bones. "More than 9 out of 10 prostate cancers are found in the local and regional stages (local means it is still confined to the prostate; regional means it has spread from the prostate to nearby areas, but not to distant sites, such as bone). When compared to men the same age and race who do not have cancer (called relative survival), the 5-year relative survival rate for these men is nearly 100%." So his odds would be very good, even if the lymph nodes are involved, assuming the cancer is only in localized lymph nodes. If it has spread farther than that, the odds aren't as good. Nevertheless, I know someone personally who was given a 1-10 chance of being alive after 5-years from advanced prostate cancer and with aggressive treatment he's now 10 years out and in remission.

It is not possible to tell a person how long he will live with prostate cancer. Because the survival statistics are measured in five-year (or sometimes one-year) intervals, they may not represent advances made in the treatment or diagnosis of this cancer.

Dear Sandey, I read the e-mail you sent this morning. Bear and I are broken hearted to hear this sad news. We send our love and prayers. My father has prostate cancer. Thankfully it was not as advanced as this case. We feel his is under control. I really don't know the prognoses for this poor man. It depends on what your definitions of success and odds are. If you are asking if he will be cured, it is not likely. If you are asking if he will survive, there is a very good chance he will. You are not giving enough information to give you a better answer. Prognosis depends on the stage, grade, race and his response to treatment. Prostate cancer is typically slow growing and it is not unusual to see a man living with this disease for 15-20 years. Very often these patients die from other causes. There are several treatment options and those also depend on stage, grade and race, but consideration of the manâ€™s lifestyle and expectations are also taken into account.

The prostate and glands can be removed. If the cancer is beyond the glands there's no cure and no surgery. I have progressive prostate cancer and am on hormones to slow the growth. Hormones are temporary and normally stop working after 12 to 18 months. After that 30% of men will die within 2 years. It's all speculation and no one can say when we will die. I wish someone knew.
