I am looking for a natural treatment to decrease Testosterone levels for prostate cancer.

I am looking for a natural treatment to decrease Testosterone levels for prostate cancer.?
My father has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Because of his age, he is not a candidate for surgery. So his local Dr has started him on hormone therapy to decrease the levels of testosterone. He gave him a hormone shot to be repeated every 4 months, plus ordered a prescription which will costs over $500.00 per month. My father does not have prescription coverage with Medicare, only the VA covers medicine, but only if he sees a VA doctor, which is very far away. He, of course, is on a fixed income so he cannot afford $500 per month. We are making an appointment to go to the VA.
In the meantime, does anyone know of any all natural supplement or treatment that can assist in the lowering of testosterone levels? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I know of some medicines that help regulate hormone levels and lower testesterone levels, but mostly in women. Am not sure in cases of cancer as in your father. The medicines are Diane 35, Aldactone, Diamet, Fincar. As far as costs are concerned, try a health insurance or try some medical loans. All d best, I wish ur dad luck with his health!

Your father should continue to take the prescription that his doctor has recommended. There are no real substitutes here. This is your fathers life and it is far more important than money. If he needs financial assistance there are other options he can pursue. Please check with the local American Cancer Society who can direct you: http://www.cancer.org/docroot/MLT/content/MLT_1x_Medical_Insurance_and_Financial_Assistance_for_the_Cancer_Patient.asp You can also contact Cancer Care who provide free online counseling through their social workers. http://www.cancercare.org/ You can also ask for assistance directly through the pharmceutical companies who offer free prescriptions to those who cannot afford to pay: http://www.rxassist.org/ Good luck.

You may want to take a look here: http://www.dendreon.com/index They are running a clinical trial for men with advanced prostate cancer. Hope this helps. Good luck to you and your father.

Hi. My father also have had prostate cancer. He takes Zell oxigen, Comitris, Zyflamend and Vitamin D. He also drinks 1l of green tea and 1l of pomegranate juice. Medical doctors are astonishing!!! They don't believe it. my father had 35 in psa and now is in 1,2

Try saw palmetto. You did not say how old he is, but if his health is still fair, you may be interested in this. http://geocities.com/cure.cancer/

Your father's cancer may be very treatable depending on his Gleason score, PSA doubling rate and his general health. If your father is in good health (excepting the cancer), then hormone therapy may not be a good choice. It will make him feel tired, cause osteoporosis, and weaken him by causing him to lose lean muscle. You may get better value for your money by seeing a real prostate cancer doctor. That being said, here is an answer to your specific question. There are several natural products on the market which claim to control prostate cancer (PC). Most of these lower testosterone somewhat. If your father has not had much androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), and he has a clear bone scan, then he might try one of these products. The best of these products Medpro's prostasol from Holland and Medpro's PC SPES are expensive and hard to get shipped to the US (each cost $105 for just 60 capsules and you must take 9 a day to begin with). There are other cheaper prostasols sold by other companies (eg Dr Donsbach), but these are not as potent. They may work for your dad. There is a product Isoprost made by Pure Prescriptions. These cost $60-70 per 90 tablets. The daily dosage is 4 tablets per day; so you could get by with two bottles per month. Compliance would be an issue, since you must take the tablets at the right time of day and (I think) between meals. Besides the "side effects" mentioned above, ADT is in general not a good idea because the PC cells generally adapt to a low testosterone environment and becomes untreatable. The herbal remedies often continue to work indefinitely: that is, the PC cells do NOT develop resistance. It is hard to give you better advice, since you haven't included enough information about your father's case. If you want more information feel free to email me. BTW, it is likely that a new prostate cancer vaccine PROVENGE which is likely to be approved by the FDA. May 15th is the review date. If your father has a cancer which expresses Prostatic Acid Phosphatase (PAP), then he might try that. It is a one-time treatment which may help his immune system to recognize and eliminate some of his cancer cells. Best of luck. Warwick d

Hi. First, your doctor is focusing on testosterone levels because he can't tell you about the many natural things that really can help your father, even if he is aware of them and wants to, which may not be the case. He is locked into treating with prescription drugs by AMA policy, or face losing his license to practice medicine. You need to look at the bigger picture and put testosterone on the back burner for a minute, because just regulating his testorone won't do diddly for getting rid of the cancer--and that is a possibility if you can think in the alternative medicine area. Five hundred years ago, people said the world was flat. Today, people say that if the FDA and AMA haven't blessed something, it can't be real good. Well, here's something I know to be real AND good. It's a little different take on cancer treatment-- In 1990, I had Hodgkin's Lymphoma, stage 3-B, but I've survived. My doctors were great people, but they were limited to surgery, chemo and radiation by profitable AMA treatment policy. During the year in treatment, I started learning about alternative medicine. I'm a retired engineer, and this is what I've pieced together--our IMMUNE SYSTEMS become weakened by poor nutrition, lack of exercise and reduced oxygen. Once that happens, our body becomes vulnerable to common STRESSORS. Stressors can be environmental, like viruses, heavy metals, pesticides, food additives, electromagnetic waves or pollution. They can be internal things like emotional or job stress, or poisonous people in our lives. Aging is also a contributing factor. So this means: WEAK IMMUNE SYSTEM + STRESSORS = DISEASE (cancer, diabetes, heart disease, etc.) Our bodies have 60 trillion--yes, trillion--cells, and there are always some mutating into cancer cells, but a healthy immune system kills them before they have a chance to get a foothold in the body. It takes a LONG time, usually, or a high level of stressors, to weaken the immune system to the point where it won't do its job, but once cancer has formed, it will generally spread rapidly. THIS IS IMPORTANT! There are ways to BEAT cancer that are currently being used in Europe and around the world, and there are some great books on the subject. I know because I've read about 50 of them from cover to cover. Here's a list of the best ones. Some are out of print and getting hard to find-- "The Cure for All Cancers", ISBN 0963632825 "The Cure for All Advanced Cancers", ISBN 1890035165 "A Cancer Therapy", ISBN 0882681052 "Oxygen Therapies", ISBN 0962052701 "Hydrogen Peroxide--Medical Miracle", ISBN 1885236077 "The Natural Cure for Cancer--Germanium", ISBN 0533071410 "Killing Cancer", ISBN 0705000966 "Natural Cures 'They' Don't Want You to Know About", ISBN 0975599518 I know of people whose cancer has 'spontaneously remitted' (WENT AWAY for no known reason) AFTER they went on programs of herbs and nutrition to restart their immune systems. You and your family must look out for yourselves to stand a chance of being healthy. This is not a joke, and I'm not selling anything--just trying to help. I am using the things I learned in those books right now to fight off a second infestation of cancer. I've been at it for over a year now, and think I'm going to make it. Use what works for you, and pass on your success. Best of luck. AMA AND FDA-- The American Medical Association (AMA) and the pharmaceutical companies control medical law and the FDA in this country with heavy lobbying and a revolving door policy. WHY would they want to do this? It's about the money. In 2006, medicine (doctors, hospitals, researchers and pharmaceutical firms) received 2.1 TRILLION dollars--15% of the total earnings (GNP 13.7 trillion) in the U.S. This is astounding! It means MILLIONS of people worked the whole year just to pay the nation's medical expenses!! That's totally astounding, and just too big to care about individuals. http://www.altcancer.com/vidgal.htm#hoxsey

Any experience out there with radiation seeds as a treatment for prostate cancer

Any experience out there with radiation seeds as a treatment for prostate cancer?
I have stage 1 cancer, Gleason scale is 6, PSA is 7. I have heard radiation seeds are quite effective with relatively few side effects for a cancer at this stage. any experience with it?

Obviously I have no personal experience with it, but many men have used them and been very happy with the results. Overall I would say the majority are happy with their decision. Before you decide get a second opinion from at least one more urologist. Treatment for prostate cancer is a personal one and there are more choices out there than most other cancers have. You may want a consult with a radiation oncologist as well as they would be the one doing the treatment. You should also consider proton therapy. Best wishes.
2 :
Not me , but my father in law. He swears by these seeds. In fact, I never heard about them until he told us. He had prostate cancer as well, stage 2. As soon as they got his PSA results, he was put in the hospital and under general anesthesia, they injected the radio active seeds directly into the tumor. They have to go through the rectum. Ouch, He said it didn't hurt after he woke. That's great. It seemed in no time the tumor was dissolved. He lives in Florida and called my husband with the good news less than a year ago that the tumor was gone. He has not had reoccurring cancer again. So if your Oncologist is suggesting for you, I say do it. My father in law is 83 and it worked. OK. Good luck and be well.
3 :
My psa was 377 and my gleason was 9 and a high stage 3. I could not use the seeds but did get 8 weeks of radiation. My current psa is .4. My older brother was very much like you in his score. His doctor used the seeds and he is cancer free after his 8 weeks of radiation. He told me he did not have many side effects. There will be some but not usually severe: problems urinating for a while but that resolves itself after a couple of weeks after treatment ends. You may also feel tired and worry a little. Talk with the doctor and I recommend going to a book store and buying a book called prostate cancer for dummies. Sounds silly but you will find a lot of use full information in it. Do not fear the cancer. At your stage there is no reason to not believe that you will be totally cured. By the way, after the radiation is done your first psa tast will not be for about a month. This is to allow the levels of radiation to normalize so as to get the best psa test score. You will be fine. Good luck to you. Remember---no fear.

Grandpa's prostate cancer spread to his hips and back, but they still call it prostate cancer. Isn't it bone

Grandpa's prostate cancer spread to his hips and back, but they still call it prostate cancer. Isn't it bone?
In other words, they removed his prostate and now it spread to his bones. Why isn't it called bone cancer instead of prostate cancer? Can anyone give me some details on this cancer he has? Thanks! And God Bless!

1 :
Because it isn’t bone cancer. If it was it would have started in his bones and as you said his prostate cancer spread to his bones, which is the most common site for prostate cancer to spread to. Bone cancer and prostate cancer are two different diseases and they do not change into another disease because it has spread to another site.
2 :
Each cancer is named by the tissue type or cell type of origin. It can spread somewhere else, such as prostate cancer going to bones or lung cancer going to liver, but that doesn't change the biology of the cell type. It also doesn't change what treatments are likely to be effective. Prostate cancer in the bones is treated differently than primary bone cancer or kidney cancer that has metastasized (spread) to bone.

links between a vasectomy and prostate cancer

links between a vasectomy and prostate cancer?
does having a vasectomy possibly affect the development of prostate cancer? any websites/data would be helpful :)
Cancer - 3 Answers

1 :
none at all they have prove it doesn't.
2 :
The two are not connected. When doing a vasectomy they are nowhere near the prostate and if a man ejaculates sperm or not does not effect the prostate one way or another.
3 :
Many churches start said rumors as vasectomies are deemed immoral, so they will do anything to scare men away from them. About half the men in the USA get a vasectomy in their 40's. Most men with prostate cancer are 50+. It stands to reason that some overlap may occur. But this has nothing to do with the surgery. Some other people tried to claim that vasectomies lead to hair loss. Again half of men in the USA, over 40 have vasectomies. Most men over 40 also have hair loss. Again, there is no connection. Age skews the results.

how much will it cost if a person undergo into a calypso prostate cancer treatment

how much will it cost if a person undergo into a calypso prostate cancer treatment?
it could probably in general amount,, the cost of the treatment itself. and is it really a recommended option for those who was diagnosed with that cancer? if not what are the other best solution for a person to recover.

You wouldn’t expect to pay the same price for a house in Iowa as you would in Malibu. Medical treatment is the same; it depends on where you live. Usually teaching hospitals are more expensive than non-teaching hospitals though. Calypso is a recommended option, but there are so many options for prostate cancer and so many variables to consider there isn’t a best option for all. If you are not sure about which option to choose try getting another opinion from another oncologist.

Yes there is research however thus far the best way to expect total recovery and survival is the removal of the prostate which of course has its side effects.

No, nobody cares except you.

Why don't women start talking about prostate cancer and make men get checked for it

Why don't women start talking about prostate cancer and make men get checked for it?
Why don't women help men out instead of just talking about breast cancer and not caring about men??

1 :
what are you talking about? my mom makes my dad get checked, because he wouldnt do it if she didnt.
2 :
Men get breast cancer. Men do not want help from women. That is really sad of you to say that men won't do something that is helpful to them unless someone tells them to.
3 :
Sheesh, as if we don't have enough to do already!!
4 :
grow up. check your own b***s
5 :
What? Are you going to offer to get your a$$ removed in a show of support for a woman having a mastectomy? Women have a difficult enough time trying to get a man to go to the doctor without having to pull his pants down and to tell him to cough, as well. Get your PS levels taken annually. That's the best way to help yourself.
6 :
..i...dont...know...
7 :
I threaten to knock my husband down and drag him to the doctor if he doesn't get his checked. Your info is wrong. Women do care.
8 :
They do. But it is usually not spoken of openly - even within the family. There is the sensitive male ego to think about. A man's children will never hear about a prostate check up until cancer is diagnosed. The thing is about half the elderly men in America have some form of prostate problems. Hey... you are a guy aren't you? Years ago you could not say the words breast cancer. It is still that way kinda with prostate subject. It would be nice if men could handle the fact that things go wrong with the plumbing alot of the time later in life. The disease would not get to the stage it does needlessly. You question should read "Why don't MEN start talking about prostate cancer and check ups ?
9 :
Men can get breast cancer too. Men should get checked because it is a good thing to do, you dont need someone to take you to the doctor. you can go by your-self you know whats good for you

Are my testosterone levels normal? Do high testosterone levels cause hair loss and prostate cancer

Are my testosterone levels normal? Do high testosterone levels cause hair loss and prostate cancer?
I am a 16 year old asian american; I shave everyday because my facial hair grows considerably noticable everyday; i have more hair on my arms and legs than almost every asian in my school; plus my acne isn't pleasant either; do i have too much DHT? will this cause baldness? prostate cancer? what can i do to prevent prostate cancer? i don't really care about the baldness part once cancer is an issue; what can i do to lower my DHT; if i have too much
Men's Health - 5 Answers

I don't think there's any link to cancer. But I have read that Asians actually have the lowest rates of prostate cancer because of their diet (Nutrition). To prevent prostate cancer, just eat a healthy diet with lots of vegetables and soy. (some people say masturbation is healthy for the prostate too =) ) It's probably genetics(hair, acne). Or it happened before you were even born if you were exposed to alot of testosterone in your mommy's womb. I think, but not sure exactly, that testosterone levels can be checked by a blood test. Hold out your fingers and check if your ring finger is longer than the index. Yes means higher testosterone. Try not to eat too much red meat, especially beef, I believe beef boosts testosterone levels. For the acne, good hygiene and not eating greasy or fatty foods (for some people) is the only thing to prevent it not counting medication and acne creams. If you must drink milk, stay away from skim. I know for us women, it can cause outbreaks...(Health and Fitness)
2 :
well, your testosterone may beused more efficiently, in your body tha in other asians, facial hair is stimulated by the testosterone but it actually grows because of fat in you skin whcich may be tied to your acne, as for prostate cancer, there are many other thing that can start it, high testosterone levels are one of them but you should just get scannned to make sure, go see the doctor
3 :
You worry to much. No you do not have to much DHT. Depends on age. You are about average. How big you will get depends on testosterone levels. The higher the more it grows. For example. Boys with micropenia (very small penis) are treated by putting testosterone cream on the penis or by injections. Do not do this without a doctor. The best thing is to eat healthy. Fruit and veggies. Pumpkin seed and Pistachios as well as other things raise testosterone levels. Easy on the sweets. No smoking! How big you get pepends on how big your father and your mothers father is. That is the genetics that controls how high your testosterone level will get.
4 :
James H Yes it can cause baldness, and prostate cancer.Testosterone is naturally converted in to estrogen, when to much is produced which causes hair loss. Chances are your fine, and the only true way to be sure if your DHT is high you need blood test. Good Luck!
5 :
the cause for prostate cancer is unknown, there for there is no known way to prevent it. The key is early detection!
