Grandpa's prostate cancer spread to his hips and back, but they still call it prostate cancer. Isn't it bone?
In other words, they removed his prostate and now it spread to his bones. Why isn't it called bone cancer instead of prostate cancer? Can anyone give me some details on this cancer he has? Thanks! And God Bless!

Because it isn̢۪t bone cancer. If it was it would have started in his bones and as you said his prostate cancer spread to his bones, which is the most common site for prostate cancer to spread to. Bone cancer and prostate cancer are two different diseases and they do not change into another disease because it has spread to another site.

Each cancer is named by the tissue type or cell type of origin. It can spread somewhere else, such as prostate cancer going to bones or lung cancer going to liver, but that doesn't change the biology of the cell type. It also doesn't change what treatments are likely to be effective. Prostate cancer in the bones is treated differently than primary bone cancer or kidney cancer that has metastasized (spread) to bone.
