My insurance will not pay for this. They will pay for regular radiation treatments claiming they do not think Proton Beam is superior to regular external radiation treatments.

Appeal this ruling and ask your doctor or whoever recommended this to do the same. It is frustrating but fairly common for insurance companies to deny these types of benefits. You have to fight for it and prove that it is a better option for you. A proton beam is far more precise than regular radiation treatments and will have fewer side effects . . all this can be put into a letter of appeal.
