Is there a new way of diagnosing prostate cancer without doing the digital examination

Is there a new way of diagnosing prostate cancer without doing the digital examination?
I heard there was a recent development but I need to be sure.

I believe there is a blood test to detect problems, but I dont think a doc would do the test without the digital exam. The digital exam checks for enlargement.
2 :
digital exam is still the best way to detect prostate cancer. =)
3 :
sure fire way to know is ask your doctor or a health professional. They could tell you if there is a better way of finding out.
4 :
The other big way of screening for prostate cancer is testing for prostate specific antigen (PSA) in the blood. It is not a perfect screening test, but it does tend to be higher in patients who have prostate cancer than in patients without it. The sources below have more information about it.
5 :
There appears to be other methods. See: http://www.yourhealthbase.com/prostate_cancer_detection.html
6 :
Yes there is a new test but unfortunately it requires a digital exam. It measures the PCA3 gene that is expressed in the more aggressive prostate cancer tumors. Try this link: http://www.gen-probe.com/
7 :
Yes there's a blood test. I had it done.
8 :
Best known is PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) test. It is done using a blood sample. However some prostate cancers do not cause a significant increase of blood PSA, that is why it is recommended to also do the digital exam.

There are a couple of tests, but they are not sure if they are conclusive. Just in case - Try Vitamin C therapy. A few years ago a cancer specialist came out with a paper that said the best cancer/infection fighter found to date was Interferon. At the time it was $15,000 a gram. The paper also said that Interferon was a by-product of the natural breakdown of Vitamin C in your body. Shortly after that the FDA tried to make Vitamin C by prescription only. Guess why? The FDA has the RDA for Vitamin C set at 64 mg a day, just enough to ward off scurvy. Linus Pauling, who got a Nobel Prize for his work with Vitamin C and a second Nobel Prize for Organic Chemistry, said that 1000 mg a day should be the minimum and 2000 mg a day if you are sick or smoke. He played tennis almost daily until the day he died at 96. Personally, I got sick twice a year for 2 weeks at a time, for more than 20 years, with something to this day the doctors have no idea what it was, but for a week in the middle of those 2 weeks I was flat on my back. I started Vitamin C therapy once I gave up on the doctors. I took enough to be asymptomatic for those 2 weeks. Too much and I got diarrhea and too little and I got sick. Within a narrow range, and it followed a bell curve over those 2 weeks, I was not sick. At the height I was taking 40,000 mg a day and 300,000 over the 2 weeks. After 2 years of that I have not been sick since รข€“ more than 15 years. Vitamin C acts as a natural diuretic so you need to drink a lot of water and watch your body in total, but my kidneys did not dissolve as the doctors predicted, or get massive kidney stones as other predicted. I did not dissolve my bones as some predicted or completely calcify my joints as others predicted. I had no side effects at all. It might be something to consider

While the blood test PSA and digital rectal exams (DRE) are ways to Screen for prostate cancer, they are not diagnostic tests. The only way to diagnose prostate cancer is by a transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) biopsy of the prostate. PSA and DRE's can be useful to detect if there are abnormalities that are suspicious for cancer, but they are far from perfect. PSA can be falsely elevated in people who have other inflammations or infections of the prostate.

Do prostate massages reduce the risk of prostate cancer

Do prostate massages reduce the risk of prostate cancer?
Is this something an average person can do (like my girlfriend) or should I go to an asian massage parlor?
Men's Health - 6 Answers

1 :
They are actually dangerous since they can cause hyperplasia
2 :
Is there such thing?
3 :
no. prostate cancer is mostly genetic.
4 :
Nope it does not. Prostate massages, in an adult over 40, without checking the Prostatic Antigen, adjusted for age, or a prostatic trasrectal ultrasound, can in fact, spread malignant cells (if already present) to the vessels around the lumbar bones...that is, can favour propagation of an undetected cancer. On the other hand FREQUENT MASTURBATION, even after the age of 60, DECREASE, trhe risk of prostatic cancer ( I dont mean it avoids anything) You can consult by yourself the pages www.pubmed.com and www.medscape.com Search in the window "prostate cancer and factors tthat decrease prostate cancer" You will find tons of articles and the answer that I here write
5 :
No!. However, frequent sexual intercourse (or masturbation) helps to keep the prostate healthy.
6 :
Nope, there is no scientific basis for the use of prostate massage. They in fact can be dangerous if not done correctly, can cause bruising and swelling which of course cause other problems with your plumbing. It works fine without any stimulation at all, no natural stimulation exists other than when you excite it during solo sex or intercourse, so any other stimulation you do is unnatural.

Anyone have the robotic surgery to remove prostate cancer

Anyone have the robotic surgery to remove prostate cancer?
my dad is researching this surgery and i am just curious to hear what other people's experiences are who have gone through this particular surgery. Recovery? Pain? etc. Thank you.

I'm sorry I have never heard of this surgery.
2 :
The Da Vinci robotic surgery system has several advantages over an open operation. Since it is essentially laparascopic surgery, it uses small holes for a camera and surgical tools. This allows major surgeries to be done without long midline incisions. This makes for quicker recovery times, less pain, less wound infections and faster healing. I've attached a link to their site. I hope this helps.

just be there for him it'll mean more then you know also be willing to just listen!!!!
2 :
Be as encouraging as possible both cancers are treatable. If his dad just found out it is probably too soon to know how advanced they are. The best thing for you to do is be there for him.
3 :
this link may help.....it's to a cancer support group/ondex http://www.cancerandcareers.org/women/strength/cancer_support_groups/
4 :
Yogis say that cancer derives from internal conflict. If medicines aren't likely to work, I'd suggest that your friend's father stop thinking about the usual concerns in his life, and take up something more peaceful. --- Otherwise, there's always religion to fall back on, and the hope of meeting loved ones again.. in the meantime, your friend should try to make the remaining time with his father as happy and free of arguments as possible, so that they'll at least have happy memories.
5 :
Wow that's heavy. He can beat this! He needs to be very positive and change his diet completely. Cancer thrives in an acidic body so the first thing to do is get alkaline. Raw apple cider vinegar and 1/8 T. baking soda 3 times a day will do amazing work in your body. He also needs A LOT of vitamin D. This is a serious deficiency in the American culture. Tell him to get direct sunlight for at least 10 minutes a day. I could go on forever but there are two sites that can give him a lot of help and hope and good health! Mercola.com and earthclinic.com Good luck and God Bless
6 :
I wouldnt dig a grave just yet. Both of those are survivable with good percentages. The fact he has both? shortens the hospital stay. You can doom and gloom later if things go poorly, but I would not advise it. All you need to do is be there when your friend is freaking out after taking his dad to chemo if its even needed (probably it wont). Just be there. You are the friends you always were, you can get through this, you cant take the burden but you can make it lighter. He doesnt have it, he is just broken up in worry. You can answer that with a handshake, a hug, if needed a good cry.
7 :
Dont look up for big hospitals for his treatment, just come to jagdalpur, chattisgarh where ayurvedic treatment may help your uncle.
8 :
u neeed to offer ur ear to him and not judge him or say "oh taht was a week ago get over it..." that is just plain wrong! u need to offer ur ear to him like just ask him wanna talk about it etc. U know teh biggest complaint ppl have wheather its teh sick person or the family friends of them is that ppl don't seem to be tehre when tehy really need or want them to! plz be there for ur friend and his dad by visiting him if u know him even if he is healthy or not. Just be there to talk and stuff! :)
9 :
be there for him and especially when he needs it the most. a little bit longer by jonas brothers this song, i guarantee it will make u better since that song was written about a sickness(diabetes) nick is trying to overcome.
10 :
honestly, there is not much you can say. My dad is dying from cancer. this is still so hard for me to believe and i am a HUGE mess. i know theres nothing my friends can say and they dont know what to say.. what you need to do is make sure he knows u are there for him. for anything, at any time. just knowing i have the greatest friends helps me alot. make sure he knows u will always be there for him. there is nothing you can say or do that will take away his pain, but it will help to know he has such an amazing friend by his side thru the whole thing.

I had prostate cancer in 2005 and had proton radiation treatments for it and am fine now. Proton radiation is the very best treatemnt available today in my opinion... The treatments have little to to side effects and a90% cure rate... I had my treatments in Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linda California. I was not sick one single day during or after my treatments. It was like being on a 10 week vacation...My Prostate cancer is gone ..Im fine.. There is a book just out written by Robert J. Marckini called YOU CAN BEAT PROSTATE CANCER. It is a great book and anyone with Prostate cancer should have it.. It tells about prostate cancer and then describes all of the treatment options that are avaialbe today...including the good and bad points of each trype of treatment. There is also a website caled PROTON BOB... (bob stands for brotherhood of the balloon) that tells alot about Proton Radiation.. Your friend should look at the website and read the Patient Testimonial section concerning Proton Radiation... Its great.. I have also had pre cancerous skin places and had them removed.. I dont think the skin problems or prostate cancer either one will kill me.. Both can be taken care of if your friends father gets the right kind of medical treatment.. As far as chosing Proton Radiation for treatment ... thats a no brainer choice.. no side effects and a 90 % cure rate compared to other treatments... Proton Radiation is very different from conventional radiation in that 85-90% of the treatment energy is delivered or released exactly at the point being treated so therefore there is no additional tissue or organ damage as in convention radiation... so therefore ...no side effects...THe Proton Bob website tells all the places that Proton Radiaition is available.. Loma Linda Calif, MD Anderson in HOuston, Tx, Mass General in Boston, mass, a hospital in Indiana and one in jacksonville florida, I think.. It is a fairly new treatment.. and many doctors are not that familiar with it and wont recommend it.. but read the testimonials on Proton Bob and you will see that any one who has ever been treated with it is totally sold on it... Its the best... If your friend would like additional information on the treatment please have her email me... at email deal on here. .. I will be glad to share my experience with prostate cancer with her.//// Its really no big problem.. if her dad can get proton radiation treatments for it..

Is it ok to masturbate for future prostate cancer prevention

Is it ok to masturbate for future prostate cancer prevention?
What do you think?
Men's Health - 8 Answers

1 :
Its ok to masturbate for plesure. This just comes along.
2 :
Yes. Masturbation is a healthy life process.
3 :
I've never actually seen a study that proves a link between wanking and cancer prevention, so it may be a myth. However I might be wrong!. However we know that wanking does no harm, so you can do it just for the pleasure, and if it helps to prevent cancer, then that's a bonus.
4 :
It's fine and good stress relief, your discovering your body and what feels good and how it all works. Your fine, keep doing what you enjoy..
5 :
Yes indeed but basically we masturbate because it's enjoyable, natural and healthy.
6 :
Masturbation is natural and normal. There is nothing wrong with it. The fact that it helps to prevent future problems of the prostate is just one of the benefits that go along with it. Enjoy your body; that's why you have it.
7 :
Yes that is most definitely and proved also:if you masturbate the chances of developing prostate cancer get a lot smaller. Colors
8 :
it is fine.. relax

What were the actual studies Rudy Giuliani recently cited regarding prostate cancer in the US verses UK

What were the actual studies Rudy Giuliani recently cited regarding prostate cancer in the US verses UK?
Authors, journal names, dates, etc...? Also, what statisticians vetted the comparison?

Rudy Giuliani studies prostates in the US and UK he seems the type.
2 :
Both studies are flawed because some doctors have shorter fingers.
3 :
I'm not sure what Giuliani said, but here is an article regarding cancer survival in the US vs Europe. The US does lead in some cancers(prostate), but Europe is equal to the US in other cancers like lymphoma. http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/561737 How come our Republican friends never like to mention the US is behind in certain areas like infant mortality? Are they afraid Americans will realize our health system isn't the best in the world? http://www.cnn.com/2006/HEALTH/parenting/05/08/mothers.index/index.html

Is this true that to much ejaculating could cause men to have prostate cancer or especially testicular cancer

Is this true that to much ejaculating could cause men to have prostate cancer or especially testicular cancer?
I heard ejaculating out of a women to much is unhealthy for young teen age boys and men and could have long term sexual health problem. Is that true?
Men's Health - 6 Answers

Actually I've heard the opposite! I mean a workout is a workout...think of it that way...I mean if u were to workout and lift weights a few times a week the right way then it would be good for u. why wouldn't it be the same? as long as u aren't compulsive...and doing it nonstop...U'll wear urself out!
2 :
It's that exact opposite.
3 :
Actually, research seems to show just the opposite--that frequent ejaculation helps prevent prostate cancer. Testicular cancer is quite rare and is often caused by the failure of one or both testicles to descend during fetal development or by other abnormalities of the testes, not by frequency of ejaculation.
4 :
research has NOT proven that the opposite is true! Too much ejaculating leads to LOWER testosterone!! Why do you people think that you can jack off an endless amount of times and still be sexually healthy for intercourse?! It is not an endless amount of energy. Erections are fueled by testosterone. Testosterone sends nitric oxide to the penis so it stays erect. When you ejaculate, testosterone is used to make more sperm for the next ejaculation. If you keep ejaculating without letting your body keep up with testosterone production, you will start to lose testosterone. When you lose testosterone, your sex drive will diminish, your erections will become weak, and you will develop symptoms of premature ejaculation. Keeping the body at low testosterone puts a man at HIGH risk of prostate cancer, among other things! Research only looks at healthy men that ejaculate in a healthy amount! When you ejaculate in a healthy amount, your body does produce more testosterone. But if you start doing it too much, the body cant keep up. All you need is some common sense to figure this out! You cant blindly follow reseach! Why do you think there is such a huge market for erectile dysfunction pills such as viagra and cialis??!
5 :
http://www.icr.ac.uk/everyman/ old wifes tale but not a reliable method of birth controle see family planning
6 :
The opposite is true. Recent research suggests that young men who masturbate at least five times per-week are less likely to experience prostate problems in later life.

If you get a 6.3 result on prostate glad test does that mean you have prostate cancer

if you get a 6.3 result on prostate glad test does that mean you have prostate cancer?
i just got a bad test on my prostate gland it come back 6.3.. does this mean i probadly have cancer of my prostate, i have had and enlarged prostate since i was thirty four years, would having prostate enlargment make my score 6.3
Men's Health - 7 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
No it means you have abnormal cells. You need to have it taken care of ASAP. Talk to your doc
2 :
Why didn't your doctor explain the results to you?
3 :
A PSA value of 6.3 is usually the result of a prostatitis. Only if the value rises within several weeks, a cancer may exist. My recommendation: take saw palmetto and burning nettle root extract cps.
4 :
Here's good info on the PSA test and what it means. If that's the test you got, 6.3 is just moderately elevated. It doesn't mean you have cancer. Read the whole article for lots of helpful info. http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/Detection/PSA
5 :
ask ur dr! and I don't think he'll be hanging around Y!A so go and ask him
6 :
A psa level of 5-10 only indicates a 25% chance of being prostate cancer. Above 10 raises chances to 50%. Stay on top of your psa level and keep in contact with the urologist. My dad had prostate cancer a few years ago He is ok now and still watches his level every 6 months. I hope everything is ok.
7 :
I just had a crash course in prostate cancer because I had it. Here's what I learned As the other folks have said, it's a rapid change in your PSA, not the PSA per se. My PSA was 2.3, but it was a 1.5 just a year before. A retest to confirm showed a 2.4. I was recommended to have a biopsy which showed just a few cancer cells on both nodes (Gleason score of 6). The biopsy is pretty easy, and, at worse, your back to work the next day. I had taken Saw Palmetto for several decades - other than the cancer, I had a healthy prostate. It was not enlarged, and I had no problem in voiding. I believe that stuff works! Compare your PSA over time, and ask your MD. Update: I didn't make it clear, but I did have surgery to remove my prostate. I used the new DiVinci robot which did a great job. Recovery is quick, but there are changes. While I still have a full libido and recovering function, I no longer ejaculate - no more wet spot in the bed!
