What does untreated prostate cancer actually do to your body

What does untreated prostate cancer actually do to your body?
Like, not symptoms, but the actual effect/s it has on you. @ Delhi Surgeon...I'm a girl, and I do not have prostate cancer. I was just curious.

Well, eventually pretty much every cancer would follow phases something like this... Localized tumor (prostate in this case) Spreads to surrounding tissues Spreads to lymph nodes Lymph nodes carry microscopic cells thru the body Cells create new cancer sites elsewhere in the body Cancer eventually gets to vital organs and uses up so much energy itself that the patient becomes weak, frail and thin, eventually dies once a vital organ gives up. Prostate is USUALLY very slow growing and normally takes a long time for it to become very serious. It's one of the most treatable cancers and very common as well. ADD: Also if you notice the most terminal or critical cancers are those that start IN the vital organs...that means that the cancer is already in a major danger zone and makes it much more deadly. I just survived cervical cancer, which the cervix is not a vital organ, I was very lucky I think because had it been somewhere vital I don't know how much harder treatment would've been but it was hard enough!

Prostate cancer is a heterogenous cancer, I mean it can have variable course (in some less aggressive and in few very aggressive). If untreated it will spread locally (to bladder/ seminal vesicle etc.), By lymphatics to pelvic nodes, and by blood vessels to other distant sites (commonly to bones/ vertebra). Usually prostate cancer is very responsive to radiotherapy/ Hormone therapy and its suregry (radical prostatcetomy) is also a safe surgery. So overall prognosis for prostate cancer is good, but once it has gone to distant organs like bones or lungs it would become incurable. May I ask why you dont want it to be treated? I would advice you to undergo proper treatment and don't just let it spread thinking it as a grave cancer and become dishartened.
3 :
It can spread, usually to the brain I think. But it is very treatable even after it has spead.

Advanced prostate cancer treatments and survival rate

Advanced prostate cancer treatments and survival rate?
One of my dearest online friends was just diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer. He is being treated with hormones to keep the cancer form growing . He is 60,very fit and otherwise healthy. How much time does he have? Are there any other treatments besides hormones? I feel so bad for him,he is a wonderful person. :(

Prostate cancer survival rates after diagnosis are close to 100%....it is very uncommon for the disease to develop in younger men, and is typically so slow-growing that many patients die of "old age" before the cancer can kill them! That said, it can still be a very "inconvenient" disease with very unpleasant side-effects, so based on the patient's life-style & expectations there are all sorts of treatment options...much will depend on whether your friend is still sexually-active, and how much that means to his "quality of life"....
2 :
Sorry to say there is no cure for advanced prostate cancer. The average life expectancy is 2 to 3 years with treatment. Very aggressive forms of the disease can be fatal within a year after diagnosis. The usual treatment is hormone treatment which blocks or stops testosterone production and may be effective a year or more. Chemotherapy usually is given after hormone therapy has failed and has about a 6 week increase in life and expectancy on average. Radiation may be used to slow down bone tumors. Provenge a new treatment that helps to activate the immune system has shown to give about four months increase in life expectancy for a cost of over $100,000. Bisphosphonates are given to slow bone deterioration. I have had all of the above treatments and am in pain most of the time. It has been less than 2 years since diagnosed and I was one who had yearly checks for the disease with no close relative to blame inheritance. In 2010 over 32,000 men in the USA will die of the disease.

Probably not good if it has spread to the liver.
2 :
cancer at any stage has a risk of a poor prognosis,,,.... the issue that it has metastasized makes things a bit grim, but there is still hope. trust you oncologist. they know better than anyone... live each day as if it were your last and have faith.. My best to you and you are in my prayers.
3 :

Can masturbating give a male prostate cancer

can masturbating give a male prostate cancer?
its just that i was listening to a couple of guys and one of them said it can cause prostate cancer is it true?

Actually it's been reported lately that it's a preventive measure against prostate cancer..so whack off and be healthy!!!
2 :
No not at all,,,,,,,,,,,dont worry and do masturbate wenever required....
3 :
god i hope not
4 :
No. If anything it would lessen your chances of getting prostate cancer. Masturbation relieves stress, the urge to do so is your body's way of getting rid of old and tired sperm cells. Most cancers are caused by being over-stressed anyway so this healthy sexual behavior is most beneficial. The only downside might be addiction (to masturbating).
5 :
No it won't, an unhealthy lifestyle or genetic predisposition will or some other factor( radiation for ex.). People are very misinformed about cancer. Get checked early and regularly. Do not be shy it could cost you your life.
6 :
No, the other day I read online somewhere, an accredited source none the less that males, especially throughout their 20's who masturbate around 5 or more times per week..that it is actually beneficial to their health. It said that it helps to flush out the carcinogenic (cancer-causing) substances that are in the semen. So i guess...with recent discovery...masturbating actually does nothing but prevent prostate cancer and therefore, to answer your question, it will not give you prostate cancer.
7 :
You apparently overheard a couple of idiots who don't know what they are talking about, and yet I bet both masturbate regularly. Masturbation is no different than sexual intercourse, other than by yourself. Sex does not cause prostate cancer. In fact, regular ejaculation whether by intercourse or solo sex is considered a method of maintaining good prostate health.
8 :
No masturbating helps PREVENTS from getting prostate cancer; therefore, it is a good idea to masturbate once a day.

I guess she is not likely to care. But it leads me to a question: when Penis Clinton was investigated by a special panel about lying under oath while being questioned by Paula Jones' lawyers and about his relationship with Tonica Blairinsky, excuse me, I mean Monica Lewinsky, he seemed to be deliberately drinking so that soon he was able to convince the panel that he had to go to the toilet. So does this behavior lead to prostate cancer?
2 :
Yes, I'm sure George W. Bush is out there telling people of their prostate cancer.
3 :
Again you provide data with no source and expect us to simply believe it. This time I notice that you exclude Aust and NZ - is that because they do it better than we do this time? And again since the health systems in these countries vary drastically to sum them up as "national healthcare" is demonstrative of sublime ignorance or an intention to mislead - I will let you decide which.

Does a vasectomy increase the risk for prostate cancer

Does a vasectomy increase the risk for prostate cancer?
It was reported once on TV News that a vasectomy increases the risk of prostate cancer. Some people immediately rejected the idea while others did not.

1 :
I've worked for a urologist for two years...they do vasectomies as well as deal with prostate cancer and I have never heard of this before so I would say definately not.
2 :
Well, I had a vascetomy and I didn't notice a vas deference in my chances.
3 :
My doctor says no. The only reason this supposedly came up was because getting a vasectomy will make you more likely (age, etc.) to be screened, hence more people found with prostate cancer have had a vasectomy. Made sense to me.
4 :
No, it doesn't. There was a study years ago that seemed to indicate that it might but it turned out that the data was misinterpreted by the media. I'm sorry I don't have more details--this came second hand from my own doctor.

Am I going to die from prostate cancer

Am I going to die from prostate cancer?
I masturbate 1 time a day and Im a 15 year old male and im really worried and scared that im going to get prostate cancer because i masturbate. Im losing sleep over it please help

If that was even slightly true, their would be no males left on this orb, called earth. All dead from prostate cancer. And at fifteen??? Someone is putting the fear of Hell into you - - - - you? Peace.
2 :
If anything, regular ejaculation is suspected to slightly decrease your risk.
3 :
Are you really concerned? Because a concern person would not have to ask that question? The real question is am I willing to stop masturbation to save my own life? Lycopene is one of the things that men lack in their diets that could lead to prostate cancer. It's your diet and exercise and number of sexually transmitted disease a man incures during a life time that determines if he gets prostate cancer. Man sure that your family has health insurance and that you have insurance when you become an adult. Go get regular male check ups. Eat healthy and stop thinking about sex so much. Live more, worry less.
4 :
Why are you so worried about getting prostate cancer from masturbating once a day? The more you masturbate, the less chance that you are going to have prostate cancer. I suggest that you type in "Male Masturbation" in your Yahoo Search, and find some websites all about masturbation. It will tell you all about it. You need to stop worrying about this.
5 :
Although you may develop hairs on your palms ( lol ), there is no way you will develop prostate or any other cancer from that habit.
